Another Global Entry question

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Planning a trip to Scotland in September. Although my wife and I are frequent travelers, we only travel internationally about once every three years.

Is Global entry worth it. And, is three and a half months enough time?

I know my AMEX care will refund the fee.

And yes, I have checked our passports and neither expire until 2025
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

If you don't already have PreCheck it's absolutely worth it even if you only use Global Entry once a year or so.

I think it's worth it for TSA pre, and if you are going to the trouble to get that, might as well get GE.

I've breezed through customs every time I've traveled internationally since I got it. This includes Chicago last summer (United texted while we were deplaning to say the wait could be up to 2 hours) and in Montreal a few weeks ago (my plan was delayed 40 min because so many people were stuck in customs).

Because we do like to travel, we have had TSA Pre since it became available.

Since you already have Pre, get the MPC app instead of GE (Mobile Passport Control). It's free. There is a separate line for it in most major US airports now as well as certain international airports where you clear US customs on their side (Canada, some Carribean countries, etc), and my experience is that the line has been just as short or shorter as GE. Used MPC to clear US customs in Toronto, the Bahamas, and JFK in the past year with basically no wait.

JFK was just a few weeks ago, arrived at 2pm on a Saturday, and there was literally no one in the MPC line. Breezed through. Toronto was the same way in March and the Bahamas last summer had maybe 2 people in the MPC line

I also recommend the app. I used it in Montreal, too. I couldn't tell from the line if I jumped ahead because of my GE or because of the app, but someone on the plane said people who used the app didn't have to wait in the long line.

Global entry has an App that goes with it as well -- don't have to scan your passport just walk straight up to a customs agent. I went thru Atlanta customs 2 weeks ago on a Sat. around noon in about 2 minutes.

I got GE just to have precheck plus the international options. I've never used it except pre-check. My wife has and it's definitely worth it. I didn't know about MPC.

I only knew about it because I got a text or email right before my flight. I think the airlines are telling people about it.

Interesting discovery I just made here...
I have an app on my phone that I've had for several years and used it once or twice, it's called mobile passport.

Now it appears to be defunct, and it says as of 2/1/22 it can't be used for submission of passport and travel entry info for CBP. Then it says they are proud to provide the first and most recognized app for the MPC program.
It goes on to say CBP no longer allows private mobile apps for the MPC program.. So I'm guessing MPC app has superseded this (and any other) app.

Good to know, we have two mexico trips this year and Denver is on the MPC list, so I've downloaded and will enter traveler info tonight.

yep...found that out on my last trip.

the new app look and name don't really inspire a lot of confidence that they are the "official" government app...which is par for the course I suppose.

Helped us to avoid an insane line at IAH
