My wife's passport expires in November. Any idea if we can travel to Mexico mid June? It will probably be just under six months before expiration. :-(

Looks like if you have travel in the next 14 days you can expedite in Dallas. That may be the plan.

I guess this is ignorance, but if it's still good, why would it matter?

Yes, you are fine.

When you get home, it is probably time to start the renewal process.

Its up to the airline/TSA agent. However, the rules for Mexico are that it must be valid at the time of entry. I would advise getting to the airport early in case you run into issues so you can escalate.

some countries require 6 months of validity on passport or they'll deny entry. EU does this. Airline is basically doing you a service by denying boarding so you don't get denied entry at EU airport and put on the next flight home.

Also, I just renewed my passport. Expedited renewal took around 3 weeks. They seem to be getting back to their usual pace.

Each country has different expiration requirements in place. Some like Mexico if it is not expired upon arrival you are good other countries have within 6 months of expiration can not travel to. Hope that helps

We sent our off at Spring Break; they were set to expire in May. We got them back inside 3 weeks and didn't expedite.

Wife and I renewed ours back in February. Took exactly 1 month to get them in the mail, and we didn't expedite.

Did those of you who recently renewed your passport receive your old one back by mail? I want it back as a keepsake but have heard stories from friends who didn't get theirs back, but that was ten years ago.

my old one came back, but later in a different envelope.

For Singapore, you have to have six months validity AFTER your departure date from Singapore.

The US Consulate in Sydney issued my daughters passports with 7 months validity a few days before our week long trip to Singapore.

The only drama was the 16 y/o losing the little piece of paper they put in your passport on arrival in SG.

Our old ones came back about a month after the new ones came.

We just flew and did this, and our child had less than 6 months left on her passport. Last minute flight, so we didn't even realize it until the night before the trip, but we went and no problem. But it was super stressful going to the airport worried that they would deny us.

Mexico, or somewhere further?

Since we are talking about passports, here are a couple of idiosyncrasies.

Some countries will refuse entry if the expiration date is more than 10 years from effective date.
(sounds weird but, apparently, this can happen if your expiration is temporarily extended)

Some countries require a certain amount of blank pages for entry.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

We just returned from Puerto Vallarta with inlaws that had passports expiring in October and nobody said a word, Mexico does not care as long as you are not planning on staying past the expiration date.

However, my wife learned the hard way years ago that Hong Kong is another story.
