My wife and I celebrate our 20th anniversary just after Christmas and are looking at a trip somewhere like December 28th to January 5th.

-7 days
-flying out of Houston
-we like medium adventure, gorgeous sights, and delicious food
-prefer international to domestic
-budget is flexible depending on where we're going

What about a Sandals in Jamaica or Bahamas? Sandals Negril is on an amazing beach, but far from the airport. Sandals Royal Caribbean is much closer to the airport and there is a private island, and you also get access to Sandals Montego Bay. I find the people in the Bahamas to be a little rude and service slower, but it has been a few years (but still had a great time). Sandals has a ton of inclusions many of the other resorts do not.

Couples Swept Away is also on an amazing beach, has a lot of inclusions, but with a better price point than Sandals.

Excellence has 2 resorts in the Dominican Republic. Secrets Cap Cana in DR is on an amazing beach.

There are other options but the above would most likely have direct flights whereas most other islands would have layovers.

I've got Tahiti/Bora-Bora penciled in for our 20th in a few years.

Also Hawaii. For 7 days you could do 2 different islands.

I'd add Sandals Royal Plantation to your list. It's all butler suites next door to Sandals Ochi. It's my favorite Sandals that I've been to. Grande Antigua is probably second.

Good to know! I never quote that one for some reason. I have clients who love Antigua. The flights can sometimes be a problem with a 45 minute layover in Miami. I wish AA would fix that for those islands (Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia).

The layover wasn't an issue for us, because the flight from MIA to ANU was delayed an hour and a half. Same thing on our flight from MIA to IAH on the way home.

I will always try to push Costa Rica. This timeframe is the beginning of the dry season and you could fit two locations in in that timeframe.

Sandals South Coast was fantastic. Definitely pay for the private transfer. Its big, open, lots of beach front, pool/bar is huge. Food was great. Lot's of room there so you never feel crowded

Downside is you are far away from the "touristy" spots, so any excursion things you do require a little bit of a journey. Wife and I took a tour & spent half a day at the other Sandals on jamaica and I'd go back to South Coast every time.

My wife and I just got back from staying a week at Nayara Springs in Costa Rica and i'd highly recommend it for a trip like this. Absolutely amazing resort and as great as it looks online, pictures dont even do it justice. Top-notch service as well.
