Headed to Mexico City for Spring Break. Four adults, no kids. Looking for recommendations on areas of town to stay (we're not renting a car), amazing places to eat, and things to do while the non-Spanish speakers wait for the Spanish speaking travel partners to arrive (approximately 6 hours).

Stay in/near Polanco. People like Condessa/Roma too but Polanco has great restaurants and bars you can walk to. Also some great markets at the park on the weekends.

We would always stay at the Hyatt Regency but it's been a few years. There's several good options.

My clients just stayed at the Sheraton and had a great time. Bus comes right near the hotel. I will say these are not hign-end clients, but they absolutely loved it.

I read today there is an impending civic water shortage coming. Might want to look into that.

and bring a jacket, MC is at altitude, higher than Denver CO. Every time I have been there it's been cool to cold at night.

Fisher's in Polanco is a great seafood restaurant!

I always stay around the Insurgentes subway station in Zona Rosa because you are right in the middle of the best neighborhoods. You can easily walk to Roma, Condesa, and Polanco. Plus the metro can get you to other areas quickly. The restaurants and nightlife is also great.

I'm the opposite! We always stay in Condesa in small, boutique hotels. Neighborhood is quiet, lots of trees and parks with walkable bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Polanco is too high-end corporate for me.

Either way, you'll have a great trip. We'll be there in April with friends to cheer on the Astros!

The people we are traveling with have recommended staying by the Zocalo. Any pros/cons for that area?

I would not stay by the Zocalo. It is a great area to visit during the day, but can turn sketchy at night. Unless you are with someone who knows the area well (and knows what streets to avoid at night) then I wouldn't stay there.

Plus, it's not as convenient to walk from neighborhood to neighborhood from the Zocalo area...although there are a few metro stops.

We had a recent good stay at Hotel Villa Condesa and will be staying there again.

About 6-7 years ago we stayed at Maria Condesa but can't vouch for it these days. However across the street from there is the most awesome old-school barbershop called Peluqueria Excelsior. It was even featured in an Apple iphone commercial. They use hot shaving cream when needed. The barbers wear clean-pressed white shirts. I got a cut there and during the cut a bicycle vendor showed up with fresh hot coffee and pastries in tow to sell to the barbers and customers.

For zocalo - walk inside the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. The lobby is spectacular with a stunning glass ceiling. It has a rooftop bar overlooking the zocalo (the bar itself is just ok) - a lot of other buildings surrounding the zocalo also have rooftop bars (worth it for the views). I'm not sure which rooftop bar is best.
