Enterprise Car Rental - Is this legit?

I was informed Enterprise will not rent vehicles to American Expats who hold a US passport but w/ a Visa and DL from their European Country of residence...or elsewhere in general. This was per DFW Airport Enterprise. Surely this can't be legitimate as that would be excluding a huge customer base. OTOH - Hertz, Avis…no issues.

Any travel agents or Enterprise employees able to confirm/deny or provide input? I'm trying to consider my options.

I've not heard of this but honestly I do maybe 3-4 car rentals a year for clients. I rarely book domestic trips.

Thank you for replying. I'm still in the middle of absolute rage and DGAF. The desk agents gave me 4 different stories. I should have asked for the policy or reason they were coming up with the be written / signed. As you can imagine, a 24hr trip w/ young kids/family back to the US to see grandparents at Christmas and then to be met with that story at 9pm…I was able to come up with another solution (hotel + family drives 2hrs to come pick us up) but it has created an insane mess.

On their website, it only states you need photo ID and DL in hand.

In What county is the DL your trying to use issued? Is the writing / lettering Latin based (Spanish English French German) or a different root base? (Russian, etc)

Liechtenstein (Switzerland). Is written in German but no translation issues and normal alphabet. Once you get the Euro DL, they required me to hand in my Texas DL.

Thanks man - chilling at Westin Stonebriar in Frisco. Considered a rental through Avis or Hertz but they quoted astronomical prices. Fam will be here at 10a.

For Enterprise - still considering what to do. Just need to confirm in some way what their policy is.

Call their corporate, and if they don't answer make your story known on their X or Facebook someone will talk to you.

Will 100% be calling today! I didn't make a "huge" scene last night but I dang sure got my point across and had 3 employees and the manager looking like deer in headlights after I pointed out their lies and directly stated they were all incompetent after 45 minutes of idiocy.

First one was I need to provide a matching visa to the DL. So of course that was easy. Then I was told no because it was an airport policy to have passport match DL…airport meaning that location of Enterprise. Then it changed to Enterprise policy in general. Then was told it was a month old, brand new policy that juuuuust was put in place…then it changed to it was enacted a long time ago due to the insurance underwriters. Really annoyed I didn't get a video or written statement.

I know it's frustrating. But causing a scene or being an ass never helps these situations. Literally the only people who could have helped you were the people you were getting your point across to. They ain't going to try harder to help someone being a dick…..

Agree 100%. I was calm and respectful (but visibly annoyed). I did question heavily the changing story and pointed out none of it made sense in any way. It wasn't till the end of 45mins when I was packing up my stuff I told them what I thought about the competence level.
Def. Made sure I wasn't going on TikTok or Facebook for any meltdown videos

Enterprise doesn't follow their own policies. Was refused a car in Austin because of my DL being less than two years expired. Texas allows military stationed out of state to extend it two years and Enterprise policy is:

Members of the United States Armed Forces who are on active duty may present an expired home state license under the following conditions:

They present an Active Military ID.
They are in compliance with their military extension policy of the state which issued the license. These policies vary by state and customers are encouraged to check with the appropriate department of motor vehicles for more information.

Following up with customer service they said "We're disappointed to hear about your experience. We have documented your feedback to improve the service at the location. Our office should be accepting an expired license when accompanied with a military ID. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

But didn't matter as i had already been refused the car.

So no, finding their policy probably won't help.

My guess is probably someone paper work related and it's a small customer base for them and not worth the effort with how much car rentals are these days, they don't lose much, if anything at all.

Their bread and butter, especially in a dfw area is business customers.

Who made you hand in your DL? US or Liechtenstein?

I will post a follow up if I get any relevant worthwhile answers from Enterprise. I'm enjoying the Holiday time now but…I can't stand incompetence and don't want anyone else to go through the same. Was really hoping TexAg had an Enterprise employee from corporate who could pipe in

I've often been tempted to take a job at a rental car agency just for a bit. The number of times I or my employees have been effed by Hertz or Enterprise airport locations because of some never before heard of policy or procedure. Or a statement that "the system" won't allow them to do such and such despite the website saying differently. I'm deeply curious about what is happening internally, operationally, and systemically that causes these types of issues. It would be fascinating to work on the inside just so I could get a grasp of wtf is happening.

OP, I'm so sorry that happened to you. It would be super frustrating to start a trip like that. I hope you'll get some sort of resolution with enterprise, but based on my experience with hundreds and hundreds of rentals, there is likely not any satisfaction to be had.

F Enterprise just because they are Enterprise. I quit using them because three times in a row they tried to add extra coverages to my rental when I turned it in that are automatically turned down during rental pickup because they are included in our corporate rates. Tried to claim I accepted them at checkin until I showed them my copy of the checkin with all of them denied. Never doing business with those slimy bastedges again.

Yeah. They lost me as a customer (was using them minimum 3x a month when traveling for work) when we booked a car in San Francisco. Picked up at the airport, went to Napa for a couple days, then had a drop off at 7 pm in downtown. We got to the location but they closed at 5. You'd think they wouldn't allow for drop offs to be confirmed online at a location when it's closed….and they wouldn't budge on charging us another days rental, not to mention the like $50 to park it at the hotel for a night.

I have at least confirmed thus far the policy stated to me was a lie. Although I haven't had E directly State that just yet, they have shown me the policy and I was meeting all requirements. Corporate is still messaging me through FB so that's a plus.
