How long do you want to ignore this user?
We are flying into Prague and flying out of Munich. We are debating where to go and how much time to spend in locations over our 10 days. We fly into Prague on the 12th and out of Munich on the 20th. We have to be in Munich on December 17th for a Bayern Munich game but we could leave and come back. We have considered Innsbruck, Salzburg, Nurenburg, and Coburg. I don't want to lead the conversation too much with our research. We will have two 10-year-olds with us.

Any recommendations?

My wife, 15-year-old, 12-year-old, our former German au pair, and I visited Munich this Spring. The three adults had run the Berlin Half Marathon the day before and we took the high-speed train from Berlin to Munich.

In Munich, we went to Allianz Arena twice, once for the stadium tour and then again for an FC Bayern match. Both times were really exciting in their own way. The kids enjoyed the tour and scouting out their seats for the next day's match. While in Munich, we also took the train to the old part of town to see Frauenkirche and landmarks in the area.

We also rented a car for two days. One day, we took a road trip to Neuschwanstein Castle. The next day, we drove on the autobahn, which has several no-speed-limit sections, to Stuttgart to see the Mercedes museum (recommended even if you aren't a Mercedes person) and also took a private tour of the Mercedes AMG factory in Affalterbach.

You can catch a train from Munich Central Station to Salzburg and many other cities. Other than the pre-arranged AMG tour and FC Bayern match, we just filled in our few days based on how the kids felt.

Hope this helps

Was just in Prague with my 2 kids around the age of yours. Can't help too much other than say you only need 2-3 days in Prague. Lovely place that they did enjoy but my kids were bored after day 2 or so.

I spent a lot of time in that area years ago, and did a similar trip earlier this year with my kid that's similar age to your kids.

I would check out Prague for a couple of days, then drive to Karlovy Vary for a day and spend the night. It's a Czech spa resort town. If your kids like James Bond, it's in Casino Royale, but they say it's Montenegro. Very beautiful town and it'll only take one day.

From there I'd drive over to Rothenburg for another day. It's a medieval town in Bavaria that's been pretty untouched for hundreds of years. Again, it's pretty unforgettable, and you only need a day. You don't even need a full day or overnight, just a few hours to walk around. But it ranks very high on the unforgettable places list.

Nurnberg is neat, hut I always think you're looking at a rebuilt city it was bombed so much. Not that much original stuff. The parade grounds are cool to see where the Nazi's held the Nuremberg rallies, if your kids are Into history.otherwise I'd skip it. When I was there (early 2000's) it was full of American soldiers (I was one of them), but I think most of the bases in the area have closed.

At Munich you have to see Neuschwanstein and you should tour Hohenschwangau which is another castle that you'll park by, it's well worth it. So just plan on that taking a full day. That's a must do.

Innsbruck is fantastic if you want to take the kids skiing in the alps for 1-2 days. I took my kid skiing there for 3 days and think it cost about $300 total for all the ski equipment rentals plus lift tickets. They'll rent pretty much all the clothes if you need them. If you want I can send you more info. If's pretty easy to get around and ski there. If you're not going to ski or snowboard though, I wouldn't go there in December.

I think Salzburg is a really cool city. The natural beauty around it is amazing. But one of the top attractions there is the Eagles Nest and it'll be closed. Salzburg is still worth seeing. There is a huge castle that's easily accessible and cool to walk around.

Have fun!

If your kids are old enough Dachau is right outside of Munich. That would be a half day event. Well worth my time when I went.

My wife and I are going to Munich and Salzburg in a few weeks. Interesting how different our itinerary is versus yours because of the kids. She wants to go to Christmas markets and I want to see Krampus. And also the beer.

Augustiner Brau in Salzburg is the best bier hall in the world. Go there. Grab their Marzen beer, go to the food hall and grab some salted radishes and some sausage and mustard. Was there last week two afternoons while the wife shopped. Amazing place
