We are traveling to NYC in a month with our three year old and are looking for some advice specifically when it comes to riding in cars (whether it be uber/lyft or taxis). In the past when we've traveled with her, we've just rented a car and rented a car seat but since we're only relying on car rides to get to/from the airport and maybe a few taxi rides to get around the city, I don't think renting a car is a good option.

How have y'all handled this? Don't really want to bring our car seat, either, but I guess that's an option. Is it possible or practical to get ubers with car seats in them?

We have brought the booster seats. Even if the kid isn't quite big enough for it yet, it is way better than nothing. You can't reasonably expect to drag around a full size car seat every where you go, but the booster is small enough that you could. It's a pain in the ass, but doable.

We also took a throw down old car seat on one trip and just left it when we were done.

I believe Lyft will show an option for a ride with a car seat but it is almost guaranteed that there won't be any available. You are better off bringing your own.

I think I would feel comfortable putting our 3 year old on a booster, especially with most of your rides being low speed urban driving around NYC. Boosters are cheap and not too much of a hassle.

They make inflatable boosters. Super easy to blow up and deflate in no time. I am sure you can find them on Amazon.

Uber has a car seat option in NYC and a couple of other select locations. It worked well for me in Orlando.

Recently bought this for my 5 year old son for a trip to Chicago. Worked great, super simple. Available on Amazon.

It says it's for kids 3 and up so may be an option for you.

We borrowed this from a friend when we went to Australia and New Zealand, and it worked great for our 4-year old. Easy to carry around, quick to connect in cabs, would recommend.

Good chance Orland is an outlier, though.....I'd assume at least every other car there would have a car seat available.....

I hope you find the carseat ride you are looking for but, I'm old enough that my parents did have a car seat for me. Or, they had one the hooked on to the dashboard. LoL. And, I'm here posting about it.
