Looking for recommendations on 4th of July celebrations in the area. Going to a graduation at Fort Lee (now Fort Gregg-Adams) on July 3.

I would imagine DC would be a zoo. Other ideas?

DC will be a mess. But I recommend experiencing the 4th there if you've never done so before.

That having been said, I love RVA (Richmond, VA). Great food scene, lots of locally owned establishments. A stone throws way to Charlottesville. Lots of amazing wineries in the Charlottesville area. Spending the 4th in RVA wouldn't be a bad deal at all.

Split time these days between NoVa and Richmond. General Gregg's daughter is a friend of mine and a good friend of my gf. We hung out this past weekend.

Hampton Beach has a good 4th of July show. I did a fireworks cruise a few years and would do it again.

Park somewhere along the Metro line and take that into DC.

I think we are going to rent a house near Logan Circle (DC) and rent bikes.

Richmond is great, not sure I'd mess with DC. 95 can be a disaster between DC and Richmond so don't let the distance fool you. Some suggestions here: https://texags.com/forums/54/topics/3380011/replies/64930705#64930705

Where in Richmond? Should you want dining options and local nightlife, let me know.

Havent got that far. Graduation on the 3rd at the base.

We like to ride bikes through historic districts. Nightlife? Those days are behind me.

Think biking out near the base is advisable. More wide open spaces in the RVA suburbs.

Good you are beyond the nightlife stage, I was hoping you'd say that because I'm past that stage as well. I would've had to ask my girlfriend's daughters.

If you like civil war history, there's a lot of that in Fredericksburg, VA. Literally midpoint between DC and Richmond.

My husband was stationed at Arlington national cemetery so we got to do all the patriotic stuff every year. I am not sure if they still have it but go watch the Twilight Tattoo. Shows off a lot of American soldier stuff. Once you get to DC, use only the metro. Traffic on 95 is INSANE.
