My husband used to go to Madrid a lot for work. He stayed here because it was close to his office. I visited him once and we really liked the area.

You shouldn't have any problem with safety. We're traveling to Madrid on Thursday. The last time we stayed south of Plaza Mayor near Tirso de Molina. It was super convenient and walkable to basically everything. This time we are in the same area. We always AirBnb.

Madrid is awesome; make sure to hit up Plaza Santa Ana for tapas and beers late afternoon.

The Chocolate dipped churros at Chocolateria San Gines were outstanding, my favorite place in Madrid.

We've stayed around the Plaza Mayor both times. It's in the middle of everything... love that area.

We stayed here on our honeymoon years ago........the plaza and overall location were awesome. Can walk to Parque de Retiro, Mercado de San Miguel and countless tapas restaurants.

Second this. Stayed here about 11 years ago. Great hotel and location for walking. Also had close metro stops too,if I recall, which made getting around the city very easy.

Heading there now on a high speed train from Barcelona. Going to hit up the Retiro and Malasana areas. Day trip to Toledo as well.

Spain overall is amazing, going to have to come back to this joint soon.
