It's not the delays and stuff that bother me about American, but it's just how awful they are treating people right.
I really try to keep my cool, but my last bad experience I lost my temper after a "customer service" agent couldn't even bring her self to say something like "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience" after I had, due to a late connection, missed my flight after sprinting through the terminal. I was literally out of breath and sweating when I went to the customer service desk, and I didn't ask for anything special, and I got not even a smile. I called her on it and her response was "what do you want, it's not my fault." I lost it on her. I regretted it, because it allowed her to justify her poor service, but if one of my employees treated someone the way I was treated they wouldn't make it to lunch. And it just seems like everyone has a story like that from America. Why do we keep going back?
Had a similar experience in DFW with AA years ago. At least she used her voice with you. The gate agent I had just stared me down and walked away when I talked to her. Things got far far worse from there. The 4th gate agent I talked to (the 2nd passed me off to a 3rd who gave me the AA 800# which then kept me on hold for a while then transferred me to the US Airways 800# who then transferred me back to the AA 800#) told me and some others to go to some specific baggage claim area to pick up our bags, but when we got down there it looked like it'd been abandoned. Some random pax went behind the desk and picked up the phone and hit redial to tell whoever picked up the phone that we'd been sent there and there was nothing or nobody there.
The 5th gate agent I talked to who showed up ready to face an angry mob at the 2nd baggage claim they sent us to blamed it all on the AA/US merger and that's when I lost it. I remember saying something like...this is your corporate hq and the dominant fortress hub for DFW and you're blaming the merger? When I'm ticketed on AA in their hometown and flying on their planes, it's the mergers fault? And I never had an issue flying US Airways when they were in Star Alliance and everything with them was seamless. So where's the issue, really? She had no answer and just walked off.
Swore off American that day and donated my AAdvantage miles to charity. Was on a UA flight in the northeast a few years ago and they had equipment failure but since they have an interline agreement with AA/Delta they were able to book me on an AA flight without issue. Sure enough, AA lost my bag. Took United's customer care/etc. getting involved since they could still track my bag...they literally had to call AA at my destination and tell them where AA had put my bag.
Absolute garbage airline.
