Just checking to see if anyone has been lately and their experience. Planning on heading over soon but want to make sure it is still a decent place for my wife and 15yr old. I appreciate the input.

I was there this past June with multiple families and kids ranging from 6 - 21. Beach was great and so was the service. We found that there was plenty to do for the kids, as well as some quieter areas to relax without other people's kids everywhere. Food was good, as well. Overall we had a great time and have already booked another trip for next June.

thanks for the reminders. We're going at thanksgiving (booked at the Planet Hollywood right now, gross). Dreams and Finest were booked up originally and now I see Finest has some openings.

We've been to Excellence 3 times and are hoping we can get Finest instead with our little one. Fingers crossed.

Excellence resorts has the "premium luxury" thing figured out.

Been 4 times over the last few years. MCMX we were there in June as well with a large group...did I meet you in the lobby by the Golden Bar? I met a group of Aggies late one evening who had just checked in. We talked a little about the 2024 schedule which had just been released.

Anyways, Finest is our Absolute favorite place. We find the staff and food the be fantastic. We've become friends with staff over the years. If you are Diamond Status they will make reservations for your meals, and the club sections all have top shelf liquor. Beach is pristine and swimmable, unlike the hotel zone. You're in for a real treat. Enjoy!

When is typically the "slow" season for Mexico resorts?

Hurricane season and then late April/early May (after spring break and before summer). Late summer when it's blazing hot isn't too bad either.

Winter is full of euros/canadians and summer full of americans.

how are you diamond? I can't seem to find a way to get an "Excellence membership number" or do they just track your name in the system?

We met some people at Excellence this summer who go every year... they said they basically get Excellence club for no additional upgrade and their choice of room. This, I want.

The Magnarita is one of the best mexican resort cocktails I've ever had.

We went last year with our 8 year olds and several other families with similarly aged kids. I just thought it was okay.

Rooms were nice, beach was nice, service was good.

Restaurants - food was just okay in all of the theme restaurants (which admittedly I don't typically like anyway) and the atmosphere in those restaurants is terrible imo. The outdoor restaurants near the beach were better.

We were real disappointed in the kids club. It's in the back corner in a swampy area with tons of mosquitos. Our kids had an okay time there and the people that worked there were great - but the pool area wasn't very inviting and they just didn't want to spend much time there (but of course they're also spolied aholes which is probably part of the problem).

Doubt we'd go back.

Their rewards program has been on 'pause' for about a year now. I never really understood how it worked, but status is usually maintained for 4 years. The room upgrades are rarely available when we go in the Summers, but we're pretty happy with our swim out room we usually get.

The Finest Club manager meets us at the door when we arrive. They really pamper you and the food is fantastic! (We like authentic Mexican food and stick to food that is original to the area VS ordering traditional American cuisine/foods). The bartenders are also excellent! I recommend keeping your invoices of previous visits, and submitting them to the Excellence Rewards once the new plan rolls out.

Telluride homey? Yeah. Dem kids is spoiled

I will add that my clients with young kiddos really enjoyed Finest. My clients with older kids and teens were bored. Just not as much to do for them as active kids.

I like the location in Playa Mujeres mainly because the beach is usually seaweed free or has less than the Riviera Maya to the south.

Just got back from a week at Finest a few days ago. Took our kids who are 6, 9, 12, and 14. Happy to answer any questions if it would be helpful.

However was the travel to and from the airport? Is the construction done?

curious how the 6 and 9 year olds did? are there decent size slides and stuff for them? I'm looking for next summer with two 7 year olds.

I think it's a great resort for that age.

They've got a great kids pool area that all my kids loved (even my 12 year old). They made friends with other kids and had a blast. Those pools plus the beach plus play areas with ping pong, foosball, etc. and we were never looking for stuff to do.
