I know it is home with family. But where if not?

Home with family is overrated (kidding - sort of).

We've done Banff at Christmas and it was amazing. I'd go back over and over. That was our best holiday trip.

We were in NYC last year just before Christmas (have been at Thanksgiving, too), and I enjoyed the decorations very much. Don't really have any burning desire to go back, though.

Also have done various Disney cruises over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. The New Years cruise was the best for various reasons.

We hiked to Havasu Falls one Thanksgiving (hiked out on Thanksgiving day) and it was kind of fun to be somewhere so remote, doing something so physically demanding on a holiday.

Same fireworks situation and they launch from the castle so you feel like you are being bombed by the castle

Great place at Christmas. We could not do Midnight Mass because you have to be there three days before to pick up the tickets.

Pacific Coast. Best. I tell people never to go to Puerto Limon. Too dangerous. I wish Arenal was still erupting, Not bad ,just a little. I was three miles away on a night when it went. No danger but it was a great thing to see.
