My FIL will be teaching a class in Tuscany (I think Arezzo) next summer for a month and invited us to join for at least 10 days. I know nothing about the area and haven't done any research yet…if we can swing this with work, how kid friendly is it? Kids would be 9, 6, and 3.5. We'd probably have a chance to do a day trip or two without the kids as well. TIA

I'm not familiar with Arezzo in particular, but have been to Tuscany and Italy multiple times. The answer depends on the type of trip you want. Option 1) Leave with kids with other family and you and your wife go by yourself for a week or as long as you can swing it. You will have a very enjoyable vacation with your wife. Option 2) you bring the kids because you want to get them international exposure at a young age. But you will have a family trip which =/= a vacation. There is not a wrong answer as it just depends on what you want. But I seriously doubt there is anything kid friendly about Arezzo besides the normal joys of Tuscany…like great views, great wine, great food, great history, great art, great cafes…all the things that kids have a difficult time appreciating.

Any way you could leave the 3.5 year old at home with a relative? While ideally you could go with just your wife it would at least make it much more manageable to not be outnumbered. No matter what, I'm sure it's gonna be an awesome trip.

Unfortunately since grandparents will be there and are housing us, they want the kids to join. We won't technically be outnumbered due to multiple extra people visiting. So it's either we all don't go or we all go.

We went last month with our 13 & 10 year olds - stayed outside of Siena and basically did day trips out to surrounding cities. Lots of walking, and the kids get a bit bored at museums in the big cities like Florence (even though it's some of the most famous world class pieces of art…but they're kids)

Otherwise, no matter where you go, a long day can be made fine with gelato haha

Our house was great with a swimming pool which went over well to end the day for the kids while we all sat around eating and drinking wine poolside
