Any of you RV guys use them?

https://harvesthosts.com/

$99 a year for access to "4,707" farms, wineries and other non RV-park sites.

Wondered if it was worth joining.

We haven't but we've considered it.

It pays for itself in 2 or 3 stops.

My understanding is that it is designed to be a single overnight stay, not a set up camp for multiple days.

The intention is for you to arrive and do business with the small business....if it's a winery you get a bottle of wine, if it's a farm you buy the homemade soap or the eggs they sell, etc.

We are big milage per day travelers so on days we are traveling we don't normally stop until 8 or 9pm, so we wouldn't be able to "participate". Thats always been the holdup for pulling the trigger for us.

The RVers that we know who travel a little more leisurely than us have really liked them. There are some cool experiences out there.

When I worked at Messina Hof in Bryan, we had them come through pretty frequently. We would let them park at the far side of our parking lot by the vineyard, and they would usually come in and get a bottle of wine and maybe dinner at the restaurant if it was open. I always thought it was pretty cool.

I think you guys are correct. Scanning the sites available, they all seem to be one night maximum, and all are dry/boondocking sites. Have to be self-contained trailers

Look like good sites for an overnight on a long trip, but not for extended stay

Can confirm that we didn't have any kind of hookups, except for maybe power? Definitely not all the amenities of a full campground. I don't know if they had issue of people wanting to spend 2 nights though. If so, they didn't tell us to shoo anybody off.

I have had Harvest Host and primarily used it traveling from Winnebago (Forest City, Iowa) to Austin 2 years ago. I did not renew. I have a class-B Campervan (Revel) and prefer using Campendium to find remote areas to stay off-grid, particularly when a 4x4 is needed since I seek separation from others.

I did use HH to stay at Messina Hof a couple of times for home game weekends, and we did partake in wine and appetizers while there. Last year I discovered an off-road ranch via Hipcamp just outside of BCS that cost me about $30/night.

We've had HH for a year and used it once. We joined to have an option if we couldn't get a reservation in a state park, etc. We have a fully self contained off-road capable van and prefer to be off grid.

HH comes in handy if you go east as there isn't a lot of public land. We stayed at a fruit orchard in Ohio. Pretty nice place. No one there but us. Better than a commercial campground.

BTW, we're staying overnight at Pala Duro on our way to Idaho in a few weeks. Maybe we could save a few bucks and crash in your driveway?! Class of '78 here. I promise to be ready for inspection. J/K

If you're class of '78, the senior discount for Texas Parks makes PD Canyon a much better deal than our 20 degree slope driveway, or out in the street, which is where I park when getting ready for a trip.

The Canyon is a lot prettier. But darn, it's hot down there lately.

I have a 50 amp RV plug at our barn out in the country. But it ain't very scenic, either. Half mile of dirt road, so it sucks if it rains.

If you want to boondock, get a Federal Parks pass, and dry camp out at Buffalo Lake NWR. I think you can camp for free.
