My wife and I have started working on our bucket list items. We figured that now is as good of time to start as any.

I want to combine these two items if possible:
1. Must be secluded-we don't want to see or talk to another person for a week.
2. Viewing the northern lights is a strong possibility.

I prefer this to be a North American trip and understand that the best time for viewing may be in the spring. I am assuming that BC or Alaska may satisfy both, but I am looking for suggestions.

Based on your desire for North America and isolation, Alaska or the Northern Canadian Provinces seem to fit the bill.

Northern lights. Look up Chena Hot Springs in Alaska. We did a three day trip for under 1k including air. Figured if we missed them we could go back. However we were not disappointed.

Don't make a list. Lists limit you.

My personal list is not a finite thing... I'm constantly adding or deleting things to my bucket list as I get older.
Just this week I penciled in "See an All-Blacks Rugby Game in New Zealand" after a TexAgs thread piqued my interest.

Good point. What I should have said was don't let the list be a limitation.

We haven't taken the approach with the list that it is finite.

For instance, wife and I (47 and 52) only have a few things on the list so far. We also only have a few things on the list that we have crossed off. Ringside at a UFC fight has been crossed off, but hookers and blow has not. There are very few travel related items on the list, but the two I mentioned in the original post are the ones that we are most urgently pursuing research on at the moment. I had no idea if they were possible to combine, but felt like it was a good possibility.

I suspect that the list will never be finalized, and it will never all be accomplished. Maybe one of these days I will post the list as it currently stands.

I have an actual physical list and it gets things added all the time....I started it back in college as a list of CFB stadiums I wanted to see a game at and as I have aged it has evolved greatly.

My goal is always to knock off as many as I can each year. This year I'm going to knock off 5 or 6.

If I didn't have the list I probably would just be wishing and not doing.

Thanks AgRyan and FriscoAggieFan for those last two contributions. I have enjoyed reading and looking into them, but I was unable to post due to a ban.

For travel adventures, you may include in your bucket list

1. Take a hot air balloon ride over picturesque landscapes.
2. Trek to iconic landmarks like Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China, or the Grand Canyon.
3. Embark on a safari to witness the incredible wildlife of Africa.

Sounds like a good idea. Looks like the north west holds a good portion of them.

I recommend you go to Fairbanks and from there, fly to Coldfoot, AK. Then you'll need a ride ~20 miles north to Wiseman, AK. A German couple owns a few small cabins there you can rent and the Aurora viewing is likely as good as it gets. Wiseman has a population of about 12 so, it's pretty secluded. However, you will need to eat and there are no stores so come prepared.

Just know that you can't see the Aurora unless the sky is clear. This means most folks do this in January, February, or March.

I've been in the brooks range in Early September and seen the Aurora every night for a week too. It's just not something that is super predictable.
