How long do you want to ignore this user?
Thinking of taking a 4 day weekend here; just my wife and I. Neither of us are golfers. What is there to do there?

I picked Scottsdale because I have enough United miles to get there and Marriott points for a hotel. It seems like it would be a pretty good trip; just want to figure out some stuff to do.

Thanks.

The spa at the Fairmont is very good, and you can get a day pass. Scottsdale has the highest number of spas per capita in the US, and there are a lot of highly ranked ones. There is a great desert botanical garden that's sometimes has light or art installations. The art museum in Phoenix is good. And the Frank Lloyd Wright house, Taliesin West, is worth a visit. There are some good hikes in the area, too.

If you like good eats Cafe Monarch or either of the Mastro's (Ocean 44 or Steak 44) are pretty good.

This facility has 3 separate bars. Typically you'll need a reservation. Each bar has separate reservations.

We got seats at Undertow - their tiki bar. We arrived early and after 15 minutes they were able to seat us for a drink at the New Orleans Apothecary as well. Walked in the Pulman car just to look at it and it was awesome. Each window of the 'train' has a screen on the outside so you look like you're riding through the countryside.

Undertow's port windows are similar - screens showing nautical scenes outside your 'window'.

Very cool art-deco hotel. The Wright Bar is where the Tequila Sunrise was invented.

If I'm in Phoenix or Scottsdale I refuse to leave if I haven't had a chance to eat at Fry Bread House. There are many places in the country to get navajo tacos - this is the only one that matters. Green chili beef with all the toppings is life changing.

Mentioned above but Taliesin West is really cool. I don't necessarily 'get' all of what Frank Lloyd Wright is going for with some of the architecture in his homes, but that doesn't make this one no less cool.
Staff - take out the trash.

Never heard of Fry Bread House. I go to Phoenix every year & this year I am staying at the Biltmore. I will definitely check it out!

Check with them to see what their over seeding schedule is. Lots of places will be closed or cart path during that time.

Some great day hiking there in some of their regional parks/preserves. Everyone will say Camelback, but go out to Tom's Thumb or Sunrise trail both about 30 minutes away. Also, I second the Century Grand cocktail complex, but book early it gets booked out. It is a smaller spa, but you can book an appointment and get the spa pool as a perk at the Andaz. Really nice day experience there, full service with drinks/food, etc. and relaxed, not crowded.
Some cool stuff in Arcadia as well. Old Town is fun for a stroll, if you feel like shopping for real stuff, the Quarter/Kierland Commons is nice and it isnt ghetto or over run with teenagers like a Houston area shopping center.

Also, Biltmore area is nice and has some great restaurants as well

Love Scottsdale. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch.

The weather should be really nice around October. Would imagine going hiking. Also recommend going to Old Town for dinner.

Lots of good restaurants in the Quarter really close to where you're staying.

I second Fat Ox. Also, sorta off beaten path but Alma and Cook and Craft are quality happy hours and daily.

Used points to get a room at the Scottsdale Marriott Old Town. It has a Hilton College Station feel to it but that's OK.

Not a fan of Old Town. If you're at Kierland there's good places nearby.

If Kierland is over seeding you're not far from Camelback Ambiente, TPC Champions, Wildfire Palmer @JW Desert Ridge and Grayhawk.

I usually shoot 100. Do these courses take my kind?
jja79
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Shooting 100 has never stopped them from taking my money. Just take lots of golf balls and act like you're just having a rare, bad day. One issue I've run into is with all the really good players here you can get paired with someone who might shoot 69 from the tips.

And throw an old club in your bag to hack out of the desert if you can even find your ball.

For anyone coming to Arizona in the near future here's over seeding information for most courses in the state. The first couple of weeks after reopening are usually cart path only.
