They are moving at a great pace to have the train completed from the Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen/Tulum. With that said, it is not dropping you off in the middle of the city, thus you still would have to take a taxi/car from the train station to your final destination.

Also they are building an airport in Tulum. While this is scheduled for 2024, it is estimated to be completed early. This article is 3 months old.

It was nice seeing Tulum while it was a sleepy-ish town.

Tren Maya is an ambitious project but I promise you that the cartels are going to get involved eventually and F things up. Can't have nice things in Mexico.

I'm worried about this too.

All this "progress" means nothing to most because Mexico remains in the Most Dangerous countries list.

Good to see some progress.

Oh great news! More people to disrupt the Yucatn ecosystem and dump raw sewage into the Caribbean Sea.

Definitely makes the bag drag to get to Cozumel from Cancun easier now that MayaAir is no longer offering flights

When you can hop in a private suburban with AC and water/beer for $100 on a multi-thousand dollar trip, why would you want slum it on Mexican public transit?

This is going to be for workers and dumbasses, most likely.

It's more about the amount of time it's supposed to save to get further south. Why sit for 75 minutes when you can get there in 15?

every time I've had private transportation, we've been gone from the terminal in less than 15 minutes. Waiting on public transit, especially a Mexican train, won't be as reliable as that. Also, who's to say it's going to be faster?

I doubt it's some sort of bullet train. Now, traffic getting through Playa can sometimes be pretty bad if going to Tulum but still, I don't think this is going to be some huge time saver for those that plan their own private transportation.

Agreed. Taking a private shuttle that drops you off at the doorstep of your resort vs. public transport that drops you off in the middle of town. No thanks.

I was there a few months ago at XCaret in Playa. They have their own busses, but man, traffic was pretty slow. I think some of that was because of the construction that might have been for this train, so that's kind of ironic. But IF there had been a train that was fast and comfortable, it would have made for a better experience than dealing with the mass of people trying to gain your attention outside the terminal.

Seems like it should be given a chance before trashing it anyway.

The train will make it nice & convenient for narcos to rob & kidnap lots of folks at once instead of having to set up roadblocks and do it one car at a time.
