Going to Positano later this year. Curious what the best way to get there would be from the Naples airport?

Arrange for a driver to pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel. Certainly not the cheapest option, but when you consider the time savings (and frustration/uncertainty) compared to other methods this is the best way to go.

Agree with both of the previous posters. Private car from the train station or airport is the way to go.

It's tempting to drive on your own - amazing views, lots of places to pull over for perfect photos, challenge of blind one lane corners - but don't do it. Hire a car. The challenge of blind one lane corners is nuts and there is zero parking. Eat at Bruno's and Saraceno D'Oro. Hire a boat to take you to little town of Amalfi.

Also, take meds if you or any of your travel companions get motion sickness. I rarely do, but thought I was going to hurl on the way back to the Naples train station. Unfun.

Agree with private car. Our hotel set it up for us.

If your driver is anything like ours was, pack some Dramamine. I NEVER get motion sick, and I nearly blew chunks multiple times.

Sounds fun……. Sorta.

We took a train from Naples to Vietri sul Mare. And then took a bus ride down to Amalfi. Was a great experience and got to talk to a few locals on the way.

I drove the fam from Naples to Positano then back to Rome. Was it exciting, yes. Would I do it again, f no!:-)
We are a fairly adventurous family but that was some grade A stressful BS I tell ya. It's a great story tho.

Definitely hire a driver. Driving in Naples is an adventure all on its own, but navigating the roads in Positano is a headache. And if you accidentally block a bus on the skinny roads there they wont let you live it down.

We took a bus from Sorrento to Maiori. We were packed in like sardines. I get motion sickness, and about halfway to Positano, I started feeling bad. She handed me a water bottle, and I started selling Buicks. It was like Moses parting the sea…I immediately had a 3 ft cushion of space all around me for the rest of the ride. We got off in Positano and hired a van to take us the rest of the way.

All this nashing of teeth about driving in the area. If you are a good driver, you'll do fine.

On one trip to the Amalfi Coast, we got to Sorrento by (ultimately commuter) train, then kept a car for 4 days and drove to Pompeii, over to the Positano/Amalfi side twice, once all the way up the coast to Ravello.

Next trip, drove from Tuscany to Positano, taking us within a couple of miles of the Naples Airport. Then kept the car and drove all over the peninsula again.

Sure, the drive from just west of Positano up the Amalfi coast can be a bit nerve wracking at times (think having to back up the road to let busses or trucks around the hairpin turn), but driving from Naples to the peninsula was a breeze. Plus driving up the coast is a ton of fun at the end of the day.
