The family bought a membership to a resort group that has a resort in the Maldives. We're thinking about booking one next year but flights can wildly vary in terms of quality and cost.

We are 8 total. Is there a good carrier that would have reasonable accommodation, baggage policy, availability and not exorbitant cost? Who would that be?

I would start with Google flights just to give you an idea of what is even available. Most carriers allows 1-2 checked bags for international flights.

Just booked a trip to the Maldives a few months ago. Connecting through the ME or Asia takes about the same amount of time, so landed on Singapore air to get us there from SFO. I actually got the best rate through Expedia, and I almost never use travel agency websites. The savings were too much to pass up. As was mentioned above, two checked bags and a carry on are included with the flights

We flew Turkish airlines, planned a long layover in Istanbul. Agree with above, just see what google flights has.

Whoever you fly, you'll likely have to have a separate seaplane flight to the resort, which aren't necessarily crazy expensive but will add up with 8 people. So be prepared for those flight costs.

Not sure what exactly you're expecting but with the 2 legs (from wherever to Male and then seaplane to island resort), I don't see how you're coming in under … $20k for all of them.

Yeah finding nearly $25k just to Male for optimal seating/schedule.
