May have a kids-free long weekend (Thursday PM to Sunday PM/Monday AM) and wondering what recommendations y'all might have for a long weekend trip out of Houston (IAH). Preference for direct flights within 3-ish hours and somewhere other than Mexico.

Some ideas:
Grand Cayman (3 hour flight)
Napa Valley (4 hour flight)
Nashville (less)
All inclusive somewhere not Jamaica or Mexico.

We just got back from Grand Cayman. Great weather, good food, really laid back island, but Americanized enough that its not third world either.

We stayed at the Palm Heights and loved it - if you needed a rec.

We are doing this exact thing to Grand Cayman departing Monday... 3 nights. Highly recommended! Quick, easy and one of the very best beaches... we've been many times but it's been a very long time since we have gone without kids. We are staying at the Westin and received notification of an upgrade to ocean front room just yesterday. Looking forward to it!

We've been on a Bahamas kick recently. 3 hour flight there and 2 hour 50 minute flight back direct from IAH. Check out Baha Mar - one of the 3 hotels will probably work for most budgets and desired amenities. It's only about 20 minutes from the airport, so you don't waste a lot of timing traveling post arrival which helps for a short trip. Tons of restaurants for dinners and plenty to do on site (tons of pools, huge beach area, big casino, crap load of restaurants, and plenty of options of off site as well that depart from their pier. Rosewood is more expensive but also feels a LOT more secluded if that is valuable for you - their private pool area is really quiet and their section of the beach is way less busy. If you aren't interested in that, the Hyatt should be just fine and you have access to all of the same amenities other than the private pool and beach area along with a much smaller room bill!

Only potential issue is I think the latest direct departure time from IAH is noon which might not fit into your Thursday PM target. With a short trip, I think you'd definitely want to arrive on Thursday so you get two full days before leaving Sunday afternoon (latest departure is around 5PM).

Haven't been to Cayman in a while but I think it would be pretty tough to go wrong there as well, especially if you primarily want to hang out on the beach.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Fly to Queretaro, there are 2-3 per day. Then it's a 1-1.5 hour drive to SMA. Easier to hire a driver then to rent a car. Beautiful, fun town with lots to do. Very walkable. Great restaurants, bars, shops/markets, art exhibits. I love it there.

sorry I know you said not Mexico but this place feels pretty different from the typical Mexico destinations like Cabo and Tulum.

Got back from Cayman yesterday. Such an easy trip from Houston.

Thanks y'all. United's Cayman flight is in the AM, too, so it may have to be Friday AM to Monday, but that's sounding like a clear favorite at this point!
