Wife and I will be spending a couple nights in Gruene and haven't been in a few years. Only place I know is The Gristmill.

Any favorite spots that are worth checking out?

Gristmill is still worth going to. Such a cool atmosphere and a great spot. Mozie's it's a fun little bar with good food across the street from the hall.

I second the Mozies suggestion. The food is good and it has a neat little vibe to it. If you get the Anticuchos, it is enough to share, and get it with the chipotle pasta instead of the chips.

Cantina Del Rio if you want Mexican. They also have a great happy hour. $3 margaritas and it lasts most of the day on Fridays.

Third vote for Mozies. Gruene Grove is a great spot for drinks too.

+1 for Gruene River Grille over Gristmill.
Cantina Del Rio is really good Mexican and a cool vibe too.
If you want to head into New Braunfels, Krause's is a great place for good German food and beer. It's a fun beer garden.
The Phoenix Saloon near the town square also makes great Chili and has a pretty cool atmosphere. We used to go play pool in their basement which used to be a prohibition speakeasy, but I think the last time I was there they had it closed.

For a good burger, you could cross the interstate and go to Freiheits. From Gruene you are about five minutes away.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Gruene Door yet. By far the best restaurant in Gruene.

Options are limited in Gruene. Mozie's is a good spot, as is Cantina del Rio. A breakfast burrito at Los Gallos is a must. Other than that, there are a lot of options in downtown New Braunfels. Go to Krause's and sit in the beer garden - they have a great beer selection and lots of German food options. Muck & Fuss is the burger spot. McAdoo's is a cool building with decent seafood options. Huisache Grill has an old Cafe Eccel vibe. Grab dessert at 2tarts Bakery.

Make the 5 minute drive to downtown NB, park, and spend a day walking around, drinking, and eating. There's a ton of fun stuff to do that's not just battling old people wandering aimlessly in Gruene.

We hit all of these spots a couple of years ago during our NB trip. All excellent. Krause's is amazing.

We also had drinks at the Phoenix Saloon. Great old building and bar.
