It's been quite some time since I have visited St. John, but we rented a villa for the family (all adults) at Cruz Bay and are heading there this week. We are the adventurous type and plan to do some offshore fishing, diving and snorkeling, maybe a sunset sail... we like dining out and drinking at bars, too! Any suggestions/tips/tricks/etc. are welcome!

If you haven't made it to the Soggy Dollar and White Bay, it is well worth a day and the cost of a charter. You'll of course need passports for that though. I really like Lime Out in Coral Bay as well. It's basically a floating taco joint with craft cocktails that is only accessible by boat. On our last visit, we did a private day charter and hit some snorkeling spots and then hung out at Lime Out for longer than we probably should have.

In terms of beaches, Maho Bay used to be a favorite, but the hurricane took out all the palms on the beach and they improved the area with parking and other improvements which ruined it. Hawksnest is still awesome (like so many of the other beaches). Rams Head is a really cool hike and you can even see St. Croix from the end if the Saharan dust isn't bad. Waterlemon Cay is a little bit of a hike but is great snorkeling.

Beach Bar is fun and usually has live music in the evenings. My wife and I usually parked there for some painkillers and music before heading out to a later dinner every night.
