Anyone here have experience camping at Morefield campground in Mesa Verde NP? What are the sites like? Sunny or shaded? Is there a favorite numbered site you recommend? TIA.

The RV/Tent spots are in a little wooden canyon. Some spots are more dense than others. I don't have a list off the top of my head. It's a hella cool experience.

I was there a few weeks ago. There are trees in Mesa Verde but not many over about 10 fee tall. There is a reason the people lived in mud houses and not wood houses.

Forgot to ask... are you looking for a spot next year? Because you are a little late to the reservation party for this summer. That last sentence is true for about 99% of Colorado RV spots.

You gotta book that campground exactly 6 months before the date you want to get there at exactly 9am Texas time. By 9:05 those are gone.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to grab a tent site and from what I read on the website, those are FCFS, but reservations are also accepted for them. (To your point, RV reservations are strongly recommended.)
From pics I can see, it's a nice enough campsite, with available showers, etc.

I'm not the one who told you about this.

Just go to 34 road and try for campsite 13 or 14. Better than anything around there and free

One last bit...

If you are a mountain biker phils world is 4 miles west of mvnp. 55 miles of trails. Rib cage is crazy intermediate fun and poquito burrito is crazy advanced fun. Phils world has been one of the world's best mtb sites for 30 years. Obviously Phil built a lot of it himself

I've scanned the map (west of the park) and have no idea what you are describing.

34 road is east of the park by 3 or 4 miles.

Just Google 34 road dispersed camping mesa verde and you will find it. It isn't hard to find.

Phils world is 4 miles west of the park. If you can't find it I just don't know what to sau

Agreed 100% with dispersed over campground. Dispersed is free and you are surrounded by nature vs fixed fire rings tables and other people.
