Looking at a beach trip for just my wife and I in July. For the $$$ it keeps looking like the best is fly to Cancun and head to a beach somewhere, and I'm really down to Akumal or Mahahual.

Are there any quiet laid back beach trips in the US worth looking into with decent water (not freezing cold)?

Gulf Shores, Destin, etc just look like too much of a madhouse for our tastes.

Short answer - prob not, not that time of year

Maybe a less poplar spot in FL Keys? Beaches are questionable there tho (not nice). Outer Banks maybe. Maybe rent a house on Folly Beach - just not right in the main / public area?

I suggest your Akumal idea for sure over the above!

Really what I'm leaning heavily towards. Fly to CUN, rent a car, and drive to Akumal. Then we'd have a car to hit a cenote one day, etc

Really enjoy Mahahual, it's just an additional 2 hours drive however. That place is perfect on days without cruise ships.

I'd take a look at Martinique.

Only $4,000+ flights each. I'm sure it's beautiful

The Breakers in Palm Beach or less expensive up the road - Jupiter Beach resort. Not sure if there is still a resort but Dufuski Island off of Hilton Head is very quiet and remote.

Why not Coronado? In July, the weather will be much better than anywhere in Florida or the Yucatn, and the water down there is pretty nice. If you stay in the Hotel Del Coronado's main building, the rooms aren't that expensive.

Wife and I just aren't very interested in California honestly.

For a quiet trip my wife and I head to El Dorado Maroma, which is 45 minutes south of Cancun. That's our happy place.

In the US you can fly in to Tampa and stay in Indian Shores or Indian Rocks Beach (both are quiet little beach towns)... it's much quieter than anything on 30A.The beaches get crowded on the holiday weekends, but as long as your not right by a public beach entrance it should be pretty quiet.

If you are going to Mexico, make sure and check the Sargassum situation. We did Tulum in July several years ago and it was terrible. Won't make that mistake again.

We went to Marco Island, FL summer or 2021 and stayed at the JW. They have an adults only side, with a bar, restaurant and pool, it was very relaxing. Adults only portion of the beach too.

The Oak Island, NC area and Pawley's Island, SC area are a couple of my favorite spots.

Fair enough. Won't presume your reasons but at Coronado you get the best of California - the weather, nice beaches and decent water temps - without having to put up with the usual California craziness, the vagrants and homeless camps. Coronado doesn't put up with it.

Kiawah Island Resort is very laid back and quiet. Not the crystal blue waters of Florida or Mexico but first class service and has that low country feel that's very relaxing.

for seclusion.. try Belize. It's still a very "off the beaten path" kind of Caribbean place. Just takes a while to get where you're going since having to fly into Belize City and puddle jump elsewhere.

Anywhere with warm water is going to be hot in July... What's your budget? considered anywhere in Europe?

We did FL Keys, large crowds are in Key West.

Islamorada is in between Miami and Key west so look close to there and should be much quieter.
