Driving there this coming Friday for vacation with wife and teenage kiddos. Never made the drive and Google gives a few different options, so curious what the best consensus is.

If it was me I'd go 20 to 49 to 10 (and take the I12 bypass around New Orleans unless you really want to stop there) but that's because I'll find any reason to stop in Lafayette and stock up on Cajun goodies.

Are you trying to stop for activities to break up the drive or get there ASAP ??

Are you planning on taking your time on way there or on the way back ??
If so what do you like to do ??

This is it, don't be one of those suckers that goes through Jackson because it looks good on a map.

I think our goal will be to make it as quickly as possible.. Planning on leaving about 6am and obviously will have to make a stop for lunch at some point.

In that case if you're making the trip on any other day than Sunday, Olde Tyme Grocery in Lafayette is my recommendation. The poboys are huge but also worth it.

I am a native Floridian that lives in the DFW area now. We make this trip every year some years multiple times and we have traveled every route. I guess I am one of those "suckers" because the Jackson route is my favorite, at least on the way. I would rather drive thru Mississippi than Louisiana. I don't like those long bridges through the swamps. The lodging is better in Mississippi. On the way home we sometimes drive until we reach Texas so the 2nd day is easier.
