Wife and I need to decide if we should go to Oregon wineries, Washington wineries, or a mix? We've done Napa, Paso, and South Africa, so we want to escape the heat this summer and do Oregon or Washington and can't decide. Help!

Also, anyone know of a travel agent for either area that could handle a lot of the planning/legwork for us?

Thanks!

If you like pinot noir Oregon is the answer. It may still be the answer even if you do not.

Check out Leavenworth in Washington.
Beautiful scenery and town. The main street has about 20 tasting rooms and 2 breweries and at least 1 distillery.

If you like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, you should do Oregon. But be forewarned; you're going to drink a lot of PN and Chard, and not much else. We did three full days there, and by the time we got to the last winery, I was tired of drinking that much pinot and Chardonnay. If I were to do it again, I'd add a day of breweries or distilleries to break it up. The scenery is beautiful, and it's only a 45 minute drive from the airport until you're in the middle of the Willamette Valley. If you want winery recommendations, let me know. Can't offer anything about Washington as I haven't done that yet.

Thanks y'all! Looking into both. My wife likes Pinot noir and Chardonnay, me not as much, maybe we can split our time in a few places?

L'Ecole 41 is in Washington and also Aggie Owned. Haven't been, but have had the wine and can say the reds are pretty awesome Bordeaux style blends. They also make a killer Syrah.

I live in Portland and spend a decent amount of time in wine country (both Willamette and Gorge).

Willamette has more non-wine things to do / variety, imo. I have my own list like all on this thread, but I'll mention a few personal recommendations. Carleton Wine Studio / 00 Wines (https://www.winemakersstudio.com/) - One of my best friends is a MS for a distributor in TX and has OR in his rotation of producers to visit. 00 Chard is a legit as it gets in his book.

To kick start your trip off the plane in PDX, Amaterra (https://amaterrawines.com/) is under a minute from our house and our daily driver. It's in the west hills overlooking the valley and just a great facility, great food and good wine.

If you do decide Willamette, I'd seriously recommend carving out a morning to hike Silver Falls / Trail of Ten Waterfalls near Salem (https://www.wedreamoftravel.com/trail-of-ten-falls-silver-falls-state-park-oregon/). You'd be so close and it's a natural wonder. I can also give you some beta on a secret, Monk owned waterfall that you can couple with some Monk brewed beer in the same area. (It's Abiqua Falls / Mt. Angel Abbey brewery)

Awesome recommendations, will look into them today. As of recently got now my wife is wanting to fly into Portland, spend a day/night there, then head out to wine places for several days.
