How long do you want to ignore this user?
We have a short stay in the Los Angeles area and will spend two nights there… thought of going to universal studios then leave out very early flight so don't wanna stay far from hotel

Very unfamiliar with La A and wondering where is a safe area to stay.

My presumption is airport hotels aren't as nice and would like to avoid if so and Beverly Hills way too expensive I imagine. Thought maybe Marina del Rey would be safe? Santa Monica but party pricey

Any thoughts/ideas?

Also in with family so if that helps narrow things

There are several hotels within walking distance of the Universal Studios. I wouldn't stay anywhere near LAX.

Marina Del Rey and Santa Monica are nice if you want to be close to the beach but aren't super close to Universal if that matters. They aren't so far away as to rule them out either.

I took my twin boys to Universal for their 10th birthday (three years ago) and we stayed at the Beverly Garland Hotel - we loved everything about it. Very safe, trendy, had a fun movie night with good food served poolside. It is an older hotel that has been nicely renovated. They are very near Universal and have a cool trolley that will shuttle you from the hotel and back. Highly recommend!

The Sheraton Gateway hotel at LAX is great. Just avoid Compton and you should be ok.

We stay here all the time and enjoy it. Never felt unsafe at all. You can take their shuttle if you don't feel like walking the couple of blocks (we do this since we have luggage). We also stay at the Hyatt Regency which is about two hotels closer (still not far).

Assume you're not planning to be out walking the streets at night. Anyplace at LAX should be OK.

Or stay at Universal. Everything up at Citywalk is expensive, obviously.

I stayed at the Westin recently and walked there from the rental car drop off. Didn't feel unsafe at night. I hear the area has changed quite a bit recently. Construction still insane in the area. It'll be nice when they finally open the mega rental car center.
