How long do you want to ignore this user?
To piggy back my other thread, we have decided to fly back from the smoky mtn area from nashville in October. We will have pretty much just an afternoon/evening, and looking for suggestions.

We have narrowed down hotel to a downtown location (by Music City Center), one near the airport, or the one by opryland.

Looking to see some live music and eat, either separately or together, but have 8/9 year old boys in tow, so something in early evening that allows kids. Want to avoid unsafe areas, so thoughts on downtown or airport area would be appreciated. Other than that, we have a car, so can drive, but walking would be nice.

I stayed at the Kimpton downtown in the past (no pet deposit so it ended up being cheaper for me and they had a good sale), Hampton Inn downtown, and Embassy suites by the airport multiple times. I felt safe at all as a single female traveler and traveling with my mother. It's a lot cheaper to stay by the airport, especially when you add parking downtown, but if you are wanting to go see a show downtown you're going to have to pay for parking anyway.

We have been staying at the Embassy Suites near Music Row recently. Plenty to do there and close to downtown at about half the cost.

I just commented on your other thread but the Gaylord Opryland Resort would be a great place to stay. Get the Soundwaves package to enjoy the indoor water park. It's next to the Opry, Opry Mills shopping mall, and near the airport.
It is pricey though.

*edit to say I missed the part about just having an afternoon/evening. My recommendation doesn't really fit the bill.

yeh we saw the gaylord (we stay in the denver one 1-2 times a year)
I have a free night but only good up to 50k points, and it was more than that. I didn't want to use that many points for one night! We saw there is a smaller marriott hotel next to the gaylord, wondering if that would work to just stay there but still visit the gaylord.
and it is just one afternoon. For that much scratch I'd want to arrive before noon and have a 4pm checkout the next day.

The rest of Nashville isn't so much about the music, just a bunch of cover bands
