The wife and I are planning a Cabo trip in the summer. What are the thoughts on AirBNB type rentals vs. hotel options out there? Is it safe "on your own" or should we strongly consider the resort type of properties. Any recommendations for these type of places?

My first thought
Do you want a vacation to where you are cooking or searching for restaurants or hiring a private chef? Or do you want an all inclusive where all of the above is taken care of.
Now I love Airbnb for my National Park trips but also love a vacation to where I can truly relax.
If you are wanting to go the all inclusive route I could love to assist. My contact info is in my Bio

Cabo and San Jose are very safe .. no Vrbo and no all inclusive .. too many great resorts to stay at out there ..

Anytime I go to MX I want food and drinks coming my way with zero effort. All inclusive. This is the way.

We went to Cabo in November and stayed at Sandos. It sits on a hill and overlooks the marina. It was our first trip to Cabo, so we did all-inclusive. We both said if we go back, we will do either an AirBnB or a smaller hotel on the marina and go out to eat. Too many options in the area with far better food that what the resort served. Cabo has many, many great restaurants.

We have been traveling to Cabo for 20 yrs. I highly recommend not staying at an AI. There are great restaurants & bars in every price range. We always stay at Villa la Estancia. There are sometimes Airbnb listings there. Also you can rent directly & sometimes thru Costco.

We went to Cabo in August and would highly recommend doing a VRBO/AirBnB vs an AI. Similar to what Texas Ag Mom mentioned, we also stayed at Villa La Estancia and would highly recommend. We would definitely stay there again if we went back.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions or want additional information.

I think this just depends on your vacation personality...

I have friends, family and clients they are all about the VRBO/AirBNB options because they can be cheaper for accommodations and they are fine with fending for themselves with food and drinks.

I personally, lean towards going to a resort/hotel or an all-inclusive resort. When I'm on vacation I just want to relax and not have to think about anything. I always like having the convenience of a hotel and their amenities.

I will say that I want to stay at a non-all-inclusive hotel next time I go to Los Cabos -- we love the San Jose del Cabo town area and the restaurants are top notch!

I agree with this. We stayed at Villa La Estancia on a family trip last year in one of their top floor penthouse units and highly recommend this. Its not cheap when looking at the per/night rate, but if you have a group of 6 or more (the unit we stayed in was a 3br and could comfortably accommodate 8-10 people) it ends up being not bad at all. It was unbelievably nice, had a massive patio with a heated spa (the outdoor patio area alone was 3000+ sqft) and an incredible view. The service there was also excellent.

If going back with just my wife and we wanted to stay at a fancy resort we'd go either Le Blanc (all-inclusive) or One&Only Palmilla, but with other family members, I think we'd always stay at Villa La Estancia based on our last experience.

Took your advice some years ago and stayed there.

Had a blast!
