How long do you want to ignore this user?
My wife has a trip to Italy in September so I just mailed off her application to renew her passport thinking we had plenty of time but then I saw a news story on my YouTube feed this morning talking about how passports are really backed up right now. What are y'all seeing in the real world right now as far as processing time for renewals? Thanks.

There are a couple of recent threads on this. Seem to be somewhat all over the map, but generally renewals are quicker.

For a trip in September, you are ahead of the game. That should be plenty of time even without expediting.

I'd say that far out for renewal you're fine.

But, typical government, it's anyone's guess.

We did a new application for a minor, so longer than a renewal in general, but when we applied we were told 5-7 weeks expedited. We paid for expedited (and expedited shipping) and it was like 10 weeks before we received the passport.

There were people on that thread who got it in 4-6 weeks. So who knows.

Thanks. Can you change to expedited after you mail it?

Yes.

I had to get mine renewed (expired) and sent it in January but used the online portal/version that I believe they've closed. Took right at 10 weeks before I got my new one.

They look weird too; way different than my old one.

I just renewed my 10 year olds passport. Submitted on April 21st and received in mail today (4 weeks).

Older sons girlfriend submitted her renewal on April 21st and also received her new passport today.

Both were submitted with expedited option.

FYI, just got an appointment w/ my closest passport office for next Thursday to get my wife's passport.

She has travel scheduled in mid June, but USCIS pulled in her citizenship interview. She completed her Naturalization ceremony on 5/12, so she doesn't have a green card any longer.

I booked a fully refundable ticket to Cancun for 6/2 and called the passport hotline (877-487-2778) this morning and was able to get an appointment for 6/1.

You need travel booked within 2 weeks to go this route.

I sent off for my renewal on March 7 and received it back on April 19, so right at 6 weeks.
I did not pay for expedited.

I had clients apply for new passports at the beginning of April and just got them back last week. They paid for expedited.
