Wife and I are looking into doing a 4 day all inclusive resort trip at the end of this summer. Has anyone stayed in any in the Austin/Fredericksburg/San Marcos area or near a beach? We are trying not to be too picky and open to any suggestions anyone on here has.

You talking about the full all inclusive that has all the food and drinks included, like in Cancun? Or you just talking about a resort that has restaurants and bars on the premises, so you don't have to leave?

There are not any all true inclusive's in Texas.

Note, I use speech to text, so ignore any grammatical errors.

For all intents and purposes, there are two in Florida, and two in the US Virgin Islands. That's not to say that some of the resorts you can't get some kind of meal plan.

The reason they don't exist in the US is because they don't make financial sense. Mexico pays their employees about five dollars a day. Obviously we have laws here that require us to pay a living wage.

There is the old Club Med in Florida that is very sports and activities focused and not really a true all inclusive. There's no waiters to bring you fancy drinks at the beach and things like that. Club Med sold it and it may be a Wyndham or something now.

There's an adults only resort in the keys, but it is about triple or quadruple of what you would find in Cancun.

There is one on St. Thomas that I would say is like Motel Six with a meal and drink plan. Very basic one restaurant limited drinks. And then there is one in St. Croix that has the worst reviews I've ever seen. Again higher than what you find in other places.

You could possibly do a cruise where you can add a drink plan.

Yeah. The more I look into it, the more I see there really isn't quite what the wife had in mind. I'm now thinking of going more towards a nicer hotel that has a spa on site that we could patron and we'll just do meals at restaurants. Just need to find something now that isn't crazy expensive.

Miraval out in Austin bills itself as a wellness resort. It's all-inclusive in that it does include meals (when I stayed, the meals were VERY good), some activities (others have an upcharge), and you usually get some sort of credit towards spa services.

When I visited (pre-Covid) it was around $500/night. Idk what it is now, but since it is all-inclusive when it comes to meals and most activities, they do increase the nightly rate if there are two people in the room. Expect it to be double for two people.

With that said, the resort is lovely, is adults only, and the spa services are very good. I wouldn't spend a week there, but a couple of nights is great. Especially since you can arrive a little early and leave a little late to take advantage of the resort amenities (you just have to be out of your room).

Lake Austin Spa and Resort is a similar concept, but I believe it's even more pricey than Miraval. Miraval also has a resort in Arizona.

Has anyone stayed at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa?

Lost Pines is nice. There are plenty of activities and a lazy river. They have a bar, a couple of restaurants (including a high-end one) and a coffee/ice cream place.

Lots of kids, though.

I've been there several times. We usually hit up downtown Bastrop, too.

ETA: Also spa and golf.

Lost Pines is fantastic. It has a wonderful pool, a beautiful golf course, and is on the banks of the Brazos, which is surprisingly beautiful. A petting zoo, butterfly garden, and outdoor activities everywhere. Great gym and spa. Several restaurants. And it's so far off the road you don't even get road noise. Great place to feel like you have really gotten away while also having just about any comfort or amenity. I really like this place.

That would be the Colorado River, not the muddy Brazos.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothing is a real cool hand

We really liked Lost Pines but it's expensive. And the food is all meh for the price, IMO. The convenience of arriving and having everything you need, including multiple restaurants, is nice, though, I will admit that.

But some of the things, like charging for self parking just irk me. I mean it's a resort where I'm paying several hundred dollars a night for a room that's in the middle of nowhere on lots of acreage. Space is not an issue. It's not downtown Austin where they're having to rent a parking garage or something....

If you wait and go at the very end of August once schools have started you will have a better vacation at resorts in Texas. There won't be as many annoying kids running around. Before my oldest kid started kindergarten we would always do mini trips in the middle of May or the week before Labor Day. Here are some places for you to check out: Lakeway Resort, Hyatt Lost Pines, La Cantera, Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch, Hyatt Hill Country.

ETA- none above are all-inclusive. There are very few all-inclusive resorts in the U.S.

Hyatt Lost Pines is great. Just realize that it is pretty isolated which is nice, but that also means it is very inconvenient to go off property to eat so you are stuck paying their quite high prices for food.

Thank you for the suggestions. We spent the weekend and start of this week looking into all the suggestions. I think the wife likes Lost Pines the best and I think it suits what we want the best. I am hopeful the spa/massage and the food will not disappoint! Thank y'all again for the advice/suggestions!

Cibolo Creek Ranch in Big Bend country and Rough Creek Lodge near Glen Rose could be considered all inclusive I guess. Meals and some drinks are included. I've been to both and they are very nice but expensive.

Rough Creek is high end. And great

We did Lost Pines a couple years ago. It was ok. My wife liked it but I thought everything was pretty overpriced for what you get. It was during COVID so it was pretty limited as far as activities. Mostly sat by the pool reading a book, drinking $8 Miller Lites. The highlight was getting off the grounds for burgers at the Roadhouse in Bastrop.

Wife and I did Lost Pines the week after Labor Day (2019) and almost had the resort to ourselves. They had begun the shut down process so the staff numbers were very low and not all the restaurants were open all of the time.
