4 night trip with the wife for our anny anniversary in June.

Down to these 2. Have stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres and like it a lot but want to mix it up.

We like good food, plenty of layout chairs/palapas and good drinks/swim up bar. Everything else is low priority.

Maroma hands down. It is one of my favorite resorts. Beach is phenomenal (if no seaweed). It also is has much better reviews. I sell a lot of this resort.

Worried about the seaweed given recent history. Mujeres gets blocked by the Isla.

Any issues with secrets Mujeres? I kinda want the golf too but not a big issue

There is nothing wrong with Playa Mujeres. . You are correct it is less likely to have seaweed. I just know the food and service are typically better at Maroma.

I just booked a Texager 11 rooms at SPM.

How would you compare the 2 to Excellence?

I would also recommend looking at Secrets Moxche, completely different food concepts than any other Secrets property. If food is important a lot of my foodie clients love this property.
Link to my IG is in bio, I just did a post on my food pics from Secrets Moxche.
Would love to answer any questions

I haven't been to Excellence. I used to not sell them much because they weren't travel agent friendly. Over the past year they have gotten better and I've sold a bunch of it.

I think out of the 3, SPM would be at the bottom. I would think probably a close tie between the other two.

look at Beloved Playa Mujeres. We are currently booked there for our anniversary next summer. Excellence owned, but a smaller boutique/spa/couples only type of property.

New Secrets Impressions opening end of May at Isla Mujeras. Look it up. It's nice

Beloved will very much have the Excellence food and service, but a smaller resort that is couples only. It will be pretty quiet. I've sold it to other Texagers and have a couple who arrived yesterday.

Feedback from anyone that's stayed? We've done excellence and loved it and are considering just rebooking it.

Secrets looks nice but they're mega adults only resorts (400 rooms). Beloved has 100 total.

no, we haven't been. Scheduled to go to next summer.

Like yall we did excellence before and thought it was great. Just a little too loud for our tastes. We loved the service, food, room, etc, however for our anniversary we just wanted a little less of the loud noises, pool games, etc. I've researched it a ton and it seems great and fits our pace well. I think its pretty damn similar to excellence in terms of everything with the big exceptions being couples only (so no weddings, corporate events, etc), no late night vegas type of shows, no club, etc.

Essentially everyone is club level service and everything is catered to couples. I've been trying hard online to find other type of resorts in similar atmosphere (couples only, smaller, AI, etc.) but I keep going back to Beloved. We are really looking forward to it next year.

If you have any questions let me know. As much as I've researched this place by this point I could essentially work for them.

Lol nice. Yeah, you've got the same feelings we do. I like the shows but don't "need them". Honestly, a small band or artist for an hour or two each night is enough. Just something to wind down.

Our room was close to the stage area at excellence and the late night noise was annoying (we were there with 3 other couples so it was a different type of trip).

This will just be us 2.

Can we venture over to Excellence if we want to catch a show or try a restaurant? I'm very surprised Beloved doesn't have an Asian restaurant. Looks like French, steakhouse, seafood.

At night the entertainment is just that, usually a duo or small band playing some tunes. Sometimes a sax player, small jazz band, etc.

I believe you can go to excellence for a dinner one night, I'd assume you could stay for the show, but I believe you must stay 5 nights in order to do that? Don't hold me to that though.

I also suggest downloading the excellence app on your phone and you can see exactly what they have going on, full restaurant/bar menus, nightly shows etc. Like you said, pretty sure they dont have the dedicated teppanyaki type of restaurant, but they do have a sushi bar in the evenings thats supposed to be pretty good and I believe a couple of the places serve some asian style entrees.

Not sure about Excellence next door (we stayed at the one in Punta Cana in the past), but Beloved also serves IPA's, and some craft beers there as well which I don't ever remember seeing at the Excellence we stayed at.

We went to Beloved last year and are going again in July. AustinCountyAg explained it well. Small quiet resort, couples only, good service.

I think the only way to dine over at Excellence is if you are staying 7+ nights. In that case they will let you make a reservation one of the Excellence restaurants one night.

Four restaurants at Beloved; Steak, French, Seafood and Italian. The steak house also has some Mexican dishes. No Asian but they do serve sushi in the lounge area. We would go have some as a snack with a drink before dinner. They usually have a musician performing here in the evenings as well.

what room did you stay in? I'm thinking of upgrading to one closer to the water but the regular ones seem fine - they look like 100% clones of the excellence regular rooms.

good to know on going across to Excellence. My wife saw the same thing - 7 nights. We're doing 4.

Also, good to know on actual premium booze. I get tired of Dos Equis for 4 days and crappy cocktails... Even at Excellence the drinks were ok. I saw Crown on a picture at Beloved, which says something... now if they would just get some real bourbon.
AustinCountyAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've read online that they have Woodford, Bulitt, and Makers..

Yeah, not much of a bourbon selection unfortunately.

Last time we stayed in one of the two-story casita suites, mainly because we booked last minute and that was the only room available at the time. We didn't use rooftop much, so kind of a waste for us. If you get one of the casitas closer to the water, that might be nice, but none are really oceanfront. The resort is so small, it doesn't take long to get anywhere.

We are staying in a swim-up suite in July. I believe all the rooms, even the junior suites, are pretty spacious.
ChoppinDs40
How long do you want to ignore this user?
nice. We booked a "casita suite with private pool" through Rocketmiles just now... even though their actual website doesn't say it's available. I've asked them to send us the actual confirmation from the hotel that that room is available... seen too many people show up at these resorts and expedia or whatever never actually booked it.

I usually go through an agent or direct but turning down 40k miles or a $400 amazon gift card from Rocketmiles is tough.
JMac03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I definitely would push to get that confirmation. It worries me the room wasn't showing direct. If they give you the reservation number (series of lowercase number and letters), you can pull it up under manage reservation" on the direct website.
AustinCountyAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
not sure of price difference but if you book direct with resort they provide free private transfers round trip from airport
ChoppinDs40
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah it came into consideration. I usually just use a third party prebook anyways like BD travel or something.

Their free cancellation rates are kinda high vs 100% prepaid.
ChoppinDs40
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yup, my exact thought. I already emailed Rocketmiles to let them know I'll be looking for the reservation #.

I then usually call the hotel and have them look it up, confirm name, dates, stay, etc.

Maroma definitely looks nicer and it's closer to excursions as compared to SPM, but I was worried about the seaweed with '23 being one of the worst expected on record.

For personal travel I'd go on the off-seaweed season and stay somewhere on the Riviera Maya -

Update: just ended up booking Excellence Playa Mujeres in excellence club. Devil that you know… we had an absolute blast time we went and everything was great. Some friends just got back and gave same reviews.

Really wanted Excellence but the room selections were tight for the 11 rooms. Good choice!

Y'all will have a great time. Much less likely you will have sargassum issues. The resort is beautiful. I can't wait to see photos! Maroma is beautiful but prime seaweed location.

Sounds like you've already booked but also give Atelier a look next time. It and Maroma are our usual destinations.

Hope you have a great trip. Seriously can't beat Mexico for the cost / convenience.

isn't Atelier closed because of a fire?

It is and I looked into it - they say they'd reopen on June 1st, but it was a bit to close to our travel dates to take the risk they don't reopen.

is that the monstrosity in PM next/close to Excellence? big glass building with pools on the side?
