How long do you want to ignore this user?
Daughter waited to get passport and had to pay extra for them to expedite it. Anyone done this recently? What was the timeframe? 4-6 weeks or longer?

We did expedited for my son the first week of March and still haven't gotten it. So we're at 7+ weeks. We have a cruise coming up in 2 weeks, not mandatory but supposedly easier than dealing with birth certificates, so my wife has been trying to call the past few days and been unable to get ahold of anyone....

7-9 weeks processing time is what's listed currently. That doesn't include shipping time (~2 weeks).

Yeah, we also paid for the expedited shipping

See the other thread on same day passports. You can call the number listed at this link and see where it is being processed and try to get an appointment in person to get it done quicker.

My wife just got her renewal back a couple days ago - took about 3-4 weeks

I just sent off applications for my three daughters yesterday via appointment at post office. We have a trip in July and I went with the expedited fee. They quoted me 7-9 weeks even for that. My wife renewed hers in January and we just received hers in the mail last week. It took 12 weeks with normal processing (no expedite).

But an update on our situation (this is for a 2 year old's new passport application).....

My wife finally got ahold of someone. She's called a dozen times now with no luck, sat on hold for a couple hours yesterday before talking to someone.

We had our passport appointment the first week in March. Lead times for expedited were 5-7 weeks then. Apparently our application wasn't received and processed until the third week of March, though. We paid the expedited fee and the additional/separate fee for expedited shipping....guess none of that expedites the beginning of the process.....also don't really understand why you have to have an in person appointment but that person can't start the application, all they do is just mail it someone else. Guess it's standard government efficiencies.

The lady she talked to on the phone yesterday marked our application as urgent (whatever the hell that means) and gladly took another $20 fee (who knows what the hell this one is for).

So, to sum up, we had our appointment 7+ weeks ago and lead times were 5-7 weeks. Cruise was 10 weeks out so didn't think we'd even be cutting it close, but here we are.

Damn, that sucks. We had to get our son a new one last month, paid for the expedited shipping and all that. Got it back one day short of a month. I couldn't believe that, guess we got pretty lucky. Hope you get it soon.

I don't know anything about how this works but my neighbor used this company for travel this coming Saturday. Her husband's passport was expired and he turned everything over to the company last Monday and had a passport by Thursday.

In the same boat. Have a wedding in Mexico in late May and didn't apply for new passport until late March. Did expedited shipping both ways and expedited processing. Mailed out on 3/23, arrived in Philadelphia 3/27, and I just checked and it shows shipped. I should get it today or tomorrow. All in all about 5 weeks door to door.

Sent in expedited passport renewal 6 weeks ago with fedex return and received new passport today. Six weeks was much better than I was expecting.

For some recent status on turn times.

We just received our daughter's passport (she is 6) yesterday. We had the appointment on April 5th and it was "received" on April 10th. We had to do expedited because our trip was 9.5 weeks out (it took over a month to get an appointment) and it was NOT expired. 17 day turnaround from receipt to my mailbox. We were told 7-9 weeks at the appointment. 22 days if you count from the appointment date.

It was for a minor so technically they don't renew passports for them. It's a "new" passport, but she did have an existing one.

Ended up being from March 28 to April 28 (today). I'm impressed

Lame.

We had our application the first week of march. Did the expedited fee and the separate fee for expedited shipping. Still nada.

So we'll be taking his birth certificate for the cruise.

They should at least refund our expedited fee. That's crap.

Well our cruise is tomorrow and just realized we have a problem…..

We mailed our birth certificate in with the passport application….

Update: they lot us on with his certification of vital record. Think that may be his short for birth certificate? Either way, we were sweating it out.

I renewed my passport March 7 and received it back March 19... so right at 6 weeks. I did not pay for expedited or anything. Just normal renewal.

I know that new applications tend to take longer than renewals but I've been hearing that passports have been coming quicker than expected in most cases.

Does it take longer to renew an expired passport?

Thought I'd share this article. Maybe time to get a passport even if you don't plan to travel soon.
