I did an online passport renewal on December 23rd. I chose expedited, and yesterday, I got an email saying it was in the mail. Surprisingly quick turnaround.

For reference, I also renewed online but did not expedite. I received my passport in 6 weeks.

So about the same timeframe regardless of the option chosen? Sounds about right.

Thanks for the info and the reminder to renew ours.

For all the ragging that governmental entities receive, the passport office is surprisingly well ran - at least the one in Houston. I was able to seamlessly get mine renewed same day. The extra $60 is well worth taking out the guessing game in my opinion, as long as you don't mind getted cussed out by the crazy homeless lady underneath Pierce elevated.

My daughter did a new application in early January, expedited, and got it last week.

Not sure if this is the best thread for this, but oh well.

FYI, we just got our kids' passports in the mail. Sent in the applications on 10/27. Seems like record time. We did not pay for expedited processing. I'd like to think this is a good sign for others as well? Maybe they are getting their **** together!

I renewed mine by mail back a few months ago, basic option, it also came in like 5 weeks.

Renewing (or getting a new passport) during the Fall/Winter, even if it's several months prior to the expiration date is well worth it. Avoid the Summer trip rush in the Spring/Summer if at all possible.

Yeah, I'd still plan ahead.

We did my son's passport (new) and paid expedited, still took over 10 weeks. No doubt we were the exception, but it's the government.....and it almost costed us
