5 days, rental car, lodging, 4 kids, one walks with difficulty. As in, no mountain trails (although we could park him somewhere). What should we see? $150/person snorkel trips are a bit expensive for 6 people, but go ahead and suggest stuff like that if you really loved it. Thanks!!!

I liked the Bacardi factory tour.

Haven't seen it but i really want to visit the bioluminescent bay at night.

El Morro is obviously cool to check out.

Old San Juan is fun to walk around and explore. It reminds me of a Spanish town with a Caribbean makeover.

We've stayed in Condado a few times and I think there are kayak/SUP board rentals on the laguna there.

Rent a house with a pool in Palmas del Mar in Humacao and enjoy a few days relaxing.

Spend your last day in San Juan and tour Old San Juan, El Morro and sneak out to a casino while the kids are in bed.

Warning, the premix Bacardi Zombie and Hurricane drinks are an ass Kicker.

I'm not sure what you mean. I've never been off the main island though.

Vieques apparently has a more renowned bioluminescent bay, but I don't need the hassle of catching a ferry and finding transportation if I can do that on the main island.

Mainland PR has two bioluminescent bays: Fajardo and La Parguera. The 3rd PR bioluminescent bay is in the island of Vieques.

Drivers are BSC in PR.

Worst drivers of anywhere I can think of.

So heads up on that.

You should probably wear a blindfold and some noise cancelling headphones in the taxi if you ever go to India.

I go to PR every 4-6 weeks for work. I was there last week and back again next week. There is a bioilluminesce bay on the NorthEast or the island around Fajardo. Really have to decide if you want to be on east or west side of island. Feel free to DM or post on here and I can answer as much as I know or inquire with coworkers as needed. Happy to help.

Plan your visit to the bioluminescent bay for a moonless night.

El Yunque National Forest is beautiful. There are a lot of trails but one doesn't need to hike. My grandparents drove me out on my last visit and they would wait for me on a bench while I hiked. If someone isn't a hiker, they might enjoy waiting with your not-so-mobile individual. There used to be a "natural" pool that was accessed quite easily. I don't know it's current condition… the last time I was there it didn't seem to appealing but they may have corrected that. There are tours. Might be worth looking into, they might be able to accommodate you.

I went several years ago and rented a boat in Fajardo for me and the family. Cannot recall what it cost but remember thinking it was money well spent.

Thanks for all the replies.
Day 1. Arrive, rent car, check in to hotel, walk to local restaurant for PR meal.

Day 2. Free guided walking tour of Old San Juan. Tipped guide. Are at food trucks (PR street food). Walked to Condado Beach in late afternoon

Day 3. Morning ferry (bought tickets 5 days ahead) to Vieques. Hired guide for the day (Vieques Concierge). Visited 4 beaches, traditional lunch (try the Tripleta burger!), return on evening ferry.

Day 4. Drive into central mountains and Pork Highway (Guavate). Ate at lechoneras where they cook the whole pig. Anthony Bourdain had been to one of them.

Day 5. Guided tour of El Yunque. Awesome. Managed to get my son with CP down the trail to the watering hole. He did great! We slid down the natural water slide and jumped off the cliffs, and hiked through the mud for an hour. 4 kids said it was the best part of the vacation.

Day 6. Old San Juan. Visited El Morro fort, shopped on the tourist streets, ate more street food. Headed to the airport for overnight return.

People don't speed, though. But they will come to a dead stop to let you onto the highways.

Missed out on the rum distillery. However, I can buy it at Spec's any time. And as a chemist, I could pretty much make any hard liquor I want from a bottle of Everclear. Ridiculous what hard liquor costs, when it is just ethanol, water, and a few drops of added flavor. Vodka has to be the biggest joke of all, right?
