We need to fly into Frankfurt in order to eventually fly to Switzerland… but we have anywhere from 1-6 days of flexibility we can use to stay in Frankfurt.

My question is… any general impressions or notes pertaining to Frankfurt? Worth spending any time there? Is a day or two enough? Thanks in advance.

Frankfurt is not that special.
But, you can drive from there to lots of things to see in Germany.

We just had a big what to do in Southern Germany thread on here a few weeks ago.

Yeah Frankfurt is nothing to write home about. It's an airport hub and financial city, and that's about it.

I stayed 3 days in Frankfurt in July.

I did nothing while I was there other than shop. One day I went to Nuremberg. Definitely nothing to get excited about.

Ride the train to Heidelberg and stay one night and 2 days.
Only 50 kilometers away so short train ride.

Frankfurt and its airport sucks, but it's a blast to drive around in the country in Germany. Highly recommend doing that.

If your final destination is Switzerland, I'd look into taking the train to Switzerland instead of flying.

Around 4hrs from Frankfurt to Zurich HB depending on time of day.

Rail station in the bottom of the airport.

It's the easiest way to go. Trust me on this.

If you drive you can hit up the Black Forest and Rheinfalls (Schaffhausen) on the way to Zurich.

Have a long layover in Frankfurt on an upcoming trip. Is there a place to store luggage at or near the airport if we want to take the train to explore Heidelberg?

The central train stations will have large secure luggage lockers

I used to travel near Frankfurt for business. As others have stated, would not spend time in Frankfurt. Financial capital of Germany, so you will see a bunch of suits and not a lot of real, impactful places.

I would suggest visiting Heidelberg or Stuttgart instead.
