Was there last week. Nice thing is you are close to some nice towns as Colmar and Freiburg. Main center of Strasbourg is an island which is where you might want to stay. Our hotel was a 17 minute walk from the train station. It does have that typical European sound of roller bags on cobblestones.
if you want to go a little out of town (40 minutes), I highly recommend some of the fine dining opportunities that one can have at these Alsatian country inns. Many chefs have setup shop in this area most have hotels attached so you can drink up and enjoy the full experience. Two that I personally really enjoyed:
We were that last December for the Christmas Markets. We stayed at the Hotel Cathdrale across from the Cathedral. The rooms were pretty unique. The town is small and it was easy to walk to the train station to get to Colmar.
Merry Christmas from Straussborg... I spent a few hours there this morning and it wasn't nearly enough. It's a beautiful place that I will be returning to! I only got to see the cathedral and Christmas market but it's been the highlight of our trip thus far. Like walking through a modern medieval town
