The season ended Sunday for me. I watched us get swept by Miami and we only face one viable starting pitcher and a relief pitcher with a 9+ ERA on Friday that was sub 8 ERA by the end of the weekend.

I tried Monday night but didn't make it past the 3rd inning. I'm just done right now.

Not the season we wanted but I'm optimistic for next season. Pretty much got career lows from most of the team and still won 80 games. I expect to see a lot of new guys in the lineup. Hoping we get a guy like Pete Alonso at first base. We need a new outfielder, first baseman, and catcher.

Good lord, the personnel overhaul needed for this lineup over the winter is insane. We can't trade our entire roster, but there isn't a single player that you look at and say "no way we're trading him".

Somebody needs to apologize to Donnie Acker.

I wouldn't want to see us trade Langford. Seager is hurt a lot, but still.....like to see him back. Same goes for Evan Carter. Like to keep all of our top pitchers. Everyone else is fair game.

I'm only referring to the lineup, and bullpens turn over nearly every year anyway. Merrill Kelly is likely gone.

If Langford, Carter, or Seager are back, fine. But none of those guys are "can't trade guys".

Langford is the only guy I might hesitate on. I could see him taking an Alex Bregman role with our franchise. It might be necessary to get rid of the current leaders in order to give him a greater role in the clubhouse. CY will need to decide who he wants to be the team leader, whether that is Langford or somebody else. I think it's hard to bring in a team leader via free agency unless he is top level character like Freddie Freeman.

Yankees. The team leader is home grown Judge. To a lesser extent maybe Stanton, an much lesser extent Bellinger.

Dodgers. The team leaders would be Betts and Will Smith. Then Ohtani and Freeman.

Astros. Home grown Altuve.

And so on . . .

Who knows, which is probably why the team couldn't sustain success like other champions and is going to need a total overhaul.

If CLE wins today, their magic # for playoffs is 1, so TEX can actually try to win. Don't think it will matter though. DET magic # would be 3.

If DET wins, both DET and CLE would have magic # of 2 to eliminate HOU, due to both owning tiebreaker against HOU.

By far, I'd think HOU would want CLE to complete the sweep today. Oh well...

Edit to add that BOS also owns the tiebreaker over HOU, so their magic number is 1 against HOU. HOU will be rooting for a sweep for either BOS or DET.

Crazy scenarios, but the one thing I got right was that HOU ended up being the most likely team to catch. I just hoped it would be us instead of CLE...

Disclaimer....I think I got this right.

Interesting comments from Semien. He obviously didn't have a great season, but his desire to win and willingness to prepare certainly seems to be there. Wonder which guys in the clubhouse he was referring to?

They just didn't play complementary ball. Just not enough relentless pressure, productive outs, situational offense. I'd study what the team was doing during that 16-4 run. It wasn't just the record. They were playing a different brand of ball. This pitching staff didn't need 3R homers, and the more we tried to hit them, the worse it got.

So Seager and Garcia struggled hitting this year because of a lack of a home grown team leader?

Because if just those two guys produce like they did in 2023, we're in the playoffs.

Hell, if just Semien does, we'd still be in the hunt this final weekend.

I personally don't think hitting coach even has that much to do with things at this point, but you could make a stronger case that hitting coach is more significant to our fall from 2023 than "no home grown team leader".

Langford will be a team leader. He's making steps towards that, but he's only 23 years old. He needed to establish himself as an everyday MLB player before taking on a leadership role, and he's now done that.

These guys all have their personal hitting coaches that focus on mechanics. I look at the team hitting coach as the guy putting together the approach at the plate and offensive strategy. Does he emphasis slugging over OBP? Does he want hitters seeing a lot of pitches or jumping on the first fastball they see? I never could figure out what the plan at the plate was this year, other than watching a whole lot of fastballs in the zone and chasing a lot of pitches out of it.

I'd lean more towards park effects playing a factor.

In 2023 we OPSd 844 at home, 737 away
In 2025 we OPSd 660 at home, 709 away

In 2023 our pitching ERA at home was 4.54, it was 4.01 away
In 2025 our pitching ERA at home was 2.82, it was 4.15 away

So in 2023 and 2025 our away numbers didn't vary significantly -- pitching or hitting.

But from 2023 to 2025 our hitting cratered at home.
And from 2023 to 2025 our pitching skyrocketed at home.

I think for whatever reason, our park became an extreme pitchers park in 2025.

Ok, but nothing about the park changed between 2023 and 2025. So I'm having a hard time justifying any park factors contributing to the decline in offense

I didn't say I could explain it. Just very odd that suddenly this year NOBODY could hit at Globe Life.

What are our opponents OPSd and ERA for those years? Just curious if they are inline with our numbers.

Honestly I don't know. I just see other franchises from the fan perspective and don't see the same people on our team. Will Seager talk if you interview him? Of course. Does he seem to be the guy the team rallies around? Not really.

I'm speaking less about why this team failed, since nobody really knows. I'm speaking to how we want to rebuild the team over the winter and who CY views as good enough to build a franchise around. Maybe Langford. Maybe Leiter, possibly Evan Carter but too early to tell on those guys. Do we still want Seager or Semien to be a team leader? If so, are they doing what it takes to serve that role? Or can we coach them into being that guy?

IMO if Seager or Semien were going to step up as team leaders, they would've done it by now. It's not their fault necessarily, it's just not their personality to be vocal, rah rah kind of guys. The team needs a sparkplug, both offensively and in the clubhouse, and I'm not sure that player exists on the current roster.

Ian Kinsler had the fire and told the Angels to get off their ****ing field.

Michael Young was "face" of the franchise.

Adrian Beltre is one of the most likable guys in the history of the sport.

Those teams still collapsed down the stretch and never won a title like robot Semien and robot Seager did.

Aaron Judge is as fired up and interesting in an interview as a wet sock. He's a "leader" because he mashes.

By all accounts the Houston clubhouse collapsed this year -- so if Altuve was credited before, is he blamed now?

Look I get what you're saying -- I said it in 2023 that it was a team devoid of any real personality. A-Rod, Teixeira, Seager, Semien... All cut from the same cloth. "Professional" ballplayers. It's much more fun to root for claw and antlers and Mike Napoli and Ian Kinsler.

But I also liked that title.

Mike Trout takes the sting out of the Rangers victory.

BOS is in, magic # for DET and CLE is 1.
