The win now mentality got the Cubs into the position they are in now. Most of the major players coming into contract years and a farm system in the bottom third of the league. Offloading salary and acquiring very young talent vs overspending and losing in the first round of the playoffs again is a savy move that I hope pays off.

It's not like were in the middle of a pandemic or anything...2021 will not be business as usual, especially for baseball. And you're insane if you think that the purchase of any sports team isn't about business.
That said, it's just bad timing/optics/whatever. You move to your own TV network where you demand more money from your fans and then start your fire sale.

If you are in that sort of position, you have no business owning one of the three most valuable franchises in baseball. Nevertheless, it hasn't stopped them from spending money on Republican or Democratic initiatives.

You're more than welcome to criticize them for their choices in their personal lives, but there's no need to be ignorant on how sports ownership works....especially when your revenue model going into 2021 will be very different.

The biggest insanity of that whole play is that the run wouldn't have counted if baez didn't get to 1st safely. I'm not even sure Baez realized that.
