Yes he was a 3 star on the major recruiting sites. Among specialists though he's rated a 5* and either the top or near the top at his position according to the Khols rankings, which are the recruiting service used mostly for specialists

Unless The Ags dramatically up their NIL game the roster is going to have to have 3* players

IMHO, don't worry so much about the ratings--SEE PAST JIMBO RECRUITING CLASSES VS WIN/LOSS RESULTS. Ratings do not necessarily provide an evaluation of the player's heart, conscience and personal judgement.

Further, let's see what happens to the ratings of current recruits when they are re-evaluated. It seems once they commit to the Agz, they tend to drop. However, when a recruit commits to tu, they get elevated.

The portal is way more important now than high school recruiting. Only a couple guys in this class will pan out and be real contributors. It's more likely it's the 5 star guys, but not guaranteed.

We have 6 three stars right now. One is a kicker so it's more like 5. That's the lowest of any team in the top ten 2027 classes at the moment. That would also be tied for the fewest of any school in the 2026 rankings.

Wasn't Ainias a three star? He turned out pretty good.

To a great extent, Elko is accountable and demands it of the players. Why worry about subjective measurements that incompletely predict performance?

Last year was a very good outcome for us. We should hope for more of the same and better.

If our class was reversed, only 6 4/5 stars a d the rest 3 stars, then I'd be worried

But when you are pulling in a boatload of 4/5 stars a d your coaches then go after a 3 star you should feel good that they saw something they really liked in that 3 star

Smart move is to save $ for transfers. Getting in proven starters allows you to take shots on projects out of high school (3 stars).

Exceptions don't make rules. Teams that win big are almost always stacked with 4-5 star talent. For every 3 star guy that pans out, hundreds don't. And yes, every once in a while a 5 star guy doesn't pan out. But you're kidding yourself (and have been for nearly 100 years) if you're happy about picking up a 3-star "because Johnny was a 3-star".

It's not just about scholarships anymore. Need value. These are kids staff has identified as big upside and not shelling out big bucks.

I looked at the 2021 class. 7 three stars. 2 contributed to the team. The rest all transferred. That's probably about right statistically. (Not knocking elko's decision making, just noting statistics are hard for people)

Recruiting is not a science. Johnny and Evans were both 3 stars. The staff doesn't care what the recruiting services rate players. They do their own evaluations and go after guys they think can contribute here.

We also have about 10 spots left so not close to full.

My Dad played in the NFL.. Ditto my Mom's Dad and Mom's brother.. I wonder how many stars they had coming out of HS ?

We already have 2, 4-star WR commits, Jaeden Upshaw and Hakim Frampton, and uncommitted 5-star WR Eric Mc Farland has a 6/8/26 100% A&M Crystal Ball so we should have at least a decent chance in recruiting him..

Trey Haddad has 247 Composite ratings of No. 1,352 player in US, No. 175 WR, and No. 56 in Ohio.

Like others have posted, I guess we just have to trust Elko and staff. There is some remote chance Haddad could turn out to be the best WR in A&M history.

Anyhow, none of our opinions really matter.

Yep. After being taken 16th overall in the draft.

I think these in home visits and overall character evaluations are important for who Coach Elko offers,
We need talent, but need good guys too.

I didn't see this yesterday, but I have to admit, I think the other 3* we picked up have things on their film that doesn't make me scratch my head. This latest WR with Haddad, does a little bit. I think he plays a similar role as a backup like Zay Williams did and will add reliable depth if we need to fall back to him and when given a chance in games might surprise with a nice snag or 2 here and there. I just don't see a lot more from him. Like I said on the other 3* guys, I think 1 or 2 could work their way up to a 4* and I can see on film the assets in skills they bring

KC Concepcion was also a 3* prospect when he was in HS... Think he turned out okay!

Star ratings are for fans to argue over.

Coaches use their own eyes to evaluate.

A&M has 10 top 100 players and the class is balanced. This is Saban level recruiting in their heyday.

Elko also has shown he's pretty good at weeding out character risks.
