I will start this off by saying that I have always loved following recruiting. I was all in on the Class of 2022 and got excited every time Bobby Taylor tweeted. I realize now it means less and the portal may have surpassed it in importance, but I found these numbers staggering.

Looking at the class of 2024 QB's from the 247 composite - in just two years:

The Top 5 have all transferred. (Sayin, Lagway, Raiola, Noland and Kromenhoek)

#6 Carr is still at nd.

5 of the next 6 have transferred with only Ryan Puglisi at Georgia staying.

8 of the next 10 transferred. This group includes Myles O'Neill.

4 of the next 5 transferred.

Doing the math it is the top 5. 10 of 12. 18 of 22. And 22 of 27. All gone in two years.

I'm not one of those college football is over types because of the changes. I still had a blast last year up until Thanksgiving. But dayum it will be hard to get excited about high school guys now. Now who has some portal news for me.

it will inevitably devolve to can this guy start as a freshman or play serious time. if not portal me baby. tbis wil drive uo the price on the very top tier guys. if you look at a guy and say two yeqrw from now he could be a good player it has to be a pass. he kid won't be here it's not worth the investment that will pay off at another school.

Do NFL teams pay as much for someone to be QB2 and how patient are they to get the QB2 under center stating?

There's the driver, It's unlikely we will see two QBs brought in with a plan for one to ride the bench because the teams won't pay equally and the transfer portal allows players freedom. You could celebrate that because it is good.

How many of those guys are starting for their team?

1. Sayin - Starting for Ohio St. after leaving Bama
2. Lagway - assuming he will start at Baylor (or Ole Miss)
3. Raiola - not starting with Moore back, will he transfer again?
4. Noland - Assume he starts at Memphis
5. Kroenhoek - No clue
6. Carr - nd starter
7. Grunkenmeyer - No official team yet
8. White - FCS Central Arkansas
9. Davis - No team yet
10. Puglisi - Still at Georgia. TBD is starting.
11. Merklinger - no team yet
12. Williams - starting at Washington though he tried to leave
13. Hammond - Still at tceh. Lost his job.
14. Cherry - Still and Indy. Not starting.
15. Van Buren - Transferred to USF with Kroenhoek

So out of the top 15:

4 stayed with their original school. Only one of them is definite starter.

11 transferred. Sayin, Lagway and Williams only definite starters. Assume one of the two at USF start. I would say 4 definite starters, 1 starter but at FCS level and 6 up in the air.

After the top 15 it is all up in the air. For example, is Miles O'Neill expected to start at UNC?

My main takeaway from this is these guys are all really young and inexperienced - the grass may not always be greener. The only home run transfer so far is Sayin.

I think the QB position is going to see the most churn out of each recruiting class as well since only one can play at a time. I think it will be very rare to recruit a high school kid and convince him to sit more than 2 years until meaningful playing time

I'm good with finding our next QB on the portal.

Good point. Only one on the field, and usually there is no rotation. If you ain't the starter, then you aint playing at all. Almost every other position on the field gets at least some rotation for backups.

This is a fair point. If a team pays a high school qb for a couple of years and then he transfers, that's not a great return on your investment.
