So college sports benefited the schools but not the athletes for decades while fans celebrated enforced shamateurism.

Note this is the coaches voting so which them are the *******s?

Next up - academic requirements. Meaning, there will be none. They are employees, not students. Of course, they can attend classes if they choose to do so, but that is a separate self-elected endeavor.

Pretty sure most don't go to class as of now. They all go to the "Athlete Academic Center" with "tutors" or all online.

A lot will and it will all come at the expense of non-revenue sports. Sucks for all girls and dudes trying to make the Olympics.

With that said, no amateur or semi-pro league is as successful as the NCAA version of American sports. Why watch a subpar version of football when the NFL is available? Affinity interest in your school... that's all this is. It's not even about the players or superstars of the game.

I don't know what the tipping point will be for fans to finally lose interest in "college" sports, but the shark has to get jumped somewhere, right?

Is this how it works? I haven't seen anything that says it effects non revenue.

This was what my last post was questioning. Does it really drive the same amount of school pride in 2030, for example, if we're starting a 27 year old playing for his 4th school in 8 years?

Olympics have been predicted to lose viewership due to similar issues related to addressing amateurism issues. Viewership continues to grow.

I don't care if we just go to five years of eligibility. Whatever.

What I do care about is where it stops. If there's a justification for giving players five years to play, why shouldn't it be seven years? There are people who go to college for seven years. If you want to get a masters and a PhD, why can't you play for 10 years?

I just want hard and fast rules to come back so everybody knows what target to shoot at.

So build two rosters and don't play anyone more than 9 games.

When Diego Pavia wins his lawsuit, this will be next stop.....since the camel has stuck his nose in the courthouse, the momentum has never slowed, and we shouldn't expect it to then.

One day I foresee eligibility approved AFTER the kids go to the NFL and return because it didn't work out. Oh, that will never happen, right? Just like the NFL would never in a million years have partnerships with gambling.

Calipari says it pretty well, including a funny reference to how they likely react to their first job and starting salary once the playing days are over:

Not true. There's a competition among universities to get the best in other sports - even Olympic sports. Baseball players are now getting more than they would in the minors. Softball more than pro softball. Basketball is better than D leagues. Track and field getting some money until they get good enough to get sponsorships.

Football may pay the way, but it's also benefiting the other sports.

and that would be good thing. Only path to pro football is through college. Why do guys with no interest in college have to go to school to pursue that? College should be optional. Many would be better off pursuing trades or just working some of those hours in between practice.

Disagree 100%. It's just football, with a brand we care about. New teams each year and movement keeps it interesting. I really don't care if a player is at A&M 1 year or 6. I do care that we are competitive and fun to watch. It's no different from any job I've ever had; most employment is at will by both parties.

Football has been paying their bills for a long time.

And? You want all these sports to foot their own bills with ticket sales or do you want a university to have programs that allow their students to compete against other schools? Because if its just economics, the football players need to detach themselves from the university. Then, they would be free to make as much as they want. Something tells me that wouldn't got quite as they plan.

So basically every player can redshirt by sitting out a few games since playoff games don't count. Teams may decide to not play their better fish in the OOC games. Who cares at this point? Just privatize college football and have ten year college students.

At this rate, the goal of getting to the NFL isn't going to be a goal anymore(besides being a for sure 1st rounder).
