Just opened a random pack of 1991 Pro Set football cards and found a Robert Wilson "3rd round draft choice" card (no. 809). Not worth much but cool to see. I know...cool story bro...but thought I'd share to have something not portal related.

Bull and Tank in that backfield. Robert Wilson would absolutely pancake some defenders

Hated to see him declare early; was a beast and was ready to tear it up his senior year; never did much in the pros.

The old days...when a primarily blocking fullback got drafted in the third round.

If Darren Lewis had won the Heisman he should have given it to him.

There are BYU defenders still sore and walking with limps,l or very gingerly from the beating he personally administered on the cougars, it was as brutal as the D treated Detmer.

Lavell Edwards can STILL F off for running his mouth before the game then being a total ***** after the game.

I mean, I like watching todays little scat backs running around the line, but there is something about running with brute force, with bodies hittin' the floor by a fullback, and then a big RB running over the sprawled out bodies that brings out the joy down deep of watching your team dominate a game physically and mentally.

I have many of those cards. I remember how excited I was pulling any Aggies back then.

We were not good enough to play BYU, we needed to be a better team.

I used to collect only cards of former Aggie players. Card shops loved it when I'd come in asking to look through boxes and boxes of their Pro Set, Topps, Fleer commons, then asking them to price a stack of Jacob Green, Ray Childress, Anthony Toney, and Lester Hayes cards. I still remember one guy just saying "uh...a dollar?"

That 1990 Holiday Bowl was as perfect a game the Ags played in the last 50 years. Everything went their way.

And I got to see it in person.

Coryatt...and every other LB from that era...would be ejected from every game today for targeting.

That pass rush was insane, and our blocking on offense was athletic poetry in motion.

I wish we had those in the same measure as we did back then.

We'd be crushing some bluebloods and making them squeal.

The same way we all think we look much younger until we look in the mirror. We forget what the pics looked like and try to think they looked much better until we see the quality years later.

William Thomas was a badass as well and started for the Eagles for years. Never saw any fullback block as well as Robert Wilson. Wrecking Crew for sure.

We had problems scheduling opponents to play us at Kyle Field too with the basic reason being they were cannon fodder for our guys and we hammered their ass, but the Kyle Field turf was harder than concrete. Take a look at what our guys would wear. Every inch of skin was covered by tape, pads, jersey something, workout shirt, etc as nobody wanted to get skinned up.

This thread brought back such good memories. It's right when I was growing up and learning to LOVE Aggie football. Bull was an all-time favorite.

And that BYU game is a great callback too. Can't wait to spin up for my son (early in career linebacker )

I wasn't around to see this one but the 2013 Cotton Bowl comes to my mind. That was a great one to be there for.

Similar games/results, but different ways of getting there. We whipped OU, especially in the 2nd half. But against BYU, we pounded them into the ground, snatched their souls, and stole their girlfriends. I don't recall how BYU got their 14 points, but it is amazing they were able to score at all.

I think the second string QB for BYU is still in the concussion protocol. I was at the game and it was glorious. BYU had been all over the media talking about how disrespected they were for having to play the lowly Aggies. Detmer had won the Heisman and they just htought they were all of that, and the cake, and the pie, and were going to eat to. I think the crow population in Utah has still not fully recovered after that one.
