Upperclassmen by position before and after portal additions (as of 1/12/26):

QB 1 -> 1
RB 1 -> 1
WR 3 -> 4
TE 1 -> 3
OT 0 -> 2
IOL 1 -> 3
Edge 2 -> 4
DL 2 -> 5
LB 2 -> 4
CB 4 -> 5
S 4 -> 5
P 1 -> 1
K 0 -> 1

You always want more but it looks like the team will have enough experience at each position going into the spring. The largest deficiencies at OL, TE, and DL were addressed. Elko must have a lot of confidence in his RB underclassmen.

Edit to add new DL commit today. 2nd edit to add new LB and Bryce coming back.

In 2025, 18 starters were upperclassmen. There is a chance we could exceed this in 2026.

For RB underclassmen, interested to see what Morrow brings to the table after some experience and bigger role. Seems like he will also be a good receiver out of the backfield.

Morrow is one of my favorite RBs in our room his production this season decreased by the end but he also got less carries. You can probably expect a lot of improvement for him next season.

we have to factor in the line of scrimmage though, this season we'll have less experience there. so we may have more upperclassmen but we live and die by the line of scrimmage.

Was Morrow hurt against TEX and Miami? I don't recall him getting any reps. Did they preserve his redshirt?

Thanks, this is interesting and thought provoking. I assume the intuitive assumption is that the experience of upperclassmen, many of whom were selectively recruited through the portal, will translate to a higher quality team. This seems to be the Indiana approach, with them having one of the higher average team ages this year. Are we well on our way to average team age (or number of upperclassmen somehow tied to portal stars) becoming the key metric for success? Or is this too simple with so many other variables involved? Suppose time will tell.

I think they would have loved to get another RB, but so far have not been able to get the right guy.

Not sure about tu, but the Miami game didn't affect redshirting. None of the post-season games affect redshirting.

He played in almost every game...

I agree; there's a lot of variables. Lets hope Elko has the RIGHT upperclassmen on the roster.

The goal is to find the best starting 22 (plus depth). The portal is an excellent way to accomplish that goal since there are no guarantees. Get as many talented looking bodies that you can get in and see which ones live up to their potential. This will likely be the norm going forward for us. About 50% of our starters will come from the transfer portal and be here 1-2 years. Not all teams use the portal as deeply. But it sure seems to our advantage when you see who the remaining playoff teams were and how much of their teams came from the portal.

Very pleased of the hard work and results of the transfer portal. Definitely upgraded.

Also relieved we cooled on Cam. He's gonna be a tu bust. Too many red flags.

Let's keep working it and finish strong. Lots of talent still out there.

Given the amount of transfers that will likely see a lot of playing time thru the OLine, I don't think anyone will know what to expect from our OLine….good OR bad

Am I the only who spent 2 minutes trying to figure out the greater than sign pointing at smaller numbers?
