Has anyone dealt with this? Pain in my gluts- especially at night. Had an MRI and labral tears in both hips. See an orthopedic in two weeks. Any over the counter meds that work better than others?

i have tears in both. No idea what you do for hobbies/exercise, but I'm a long distance runner. The Ortho I saw (who is supposedly one of the best in Austin) said almost all distance runners have tears in one or both. Most don't even know they have them. Turned out my pain wasn't from the labral tears, but was from a Core Muscle Injury (sports hernia).

that said, i know multiple people (runners and cyclists) that have had pretty bad pain from a labral tear that required surgery. They have been pain free since surgery.

aggiederelict and others will probably be along shortly with some much better info since they were actually trained to deal with this stuff.

Thanks for the response. Former marathoner. It has been years though. I workout three 3-5 days a week and play a ton of golf. I'm thinking it's the golf.

Labral pain usually presents in the groin unless it is a really big tear then it can be all around the hip joint. No signs of glut medius tendonitis at all? Anything else on the imaging report of note?

Wear and tear arthritis. No pain in the groin. The pain is deep in the gluts. Maybe the pain in the gluts is associated with something else - perhaps Piriformis Syndrome? The primary care doctor before my current primary suspected this. Would PS show on the hip scans?

Piriformis Syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion after everything else has been ruled out. i.e. low back, glut pathology, sciatica.

The question should be does your exam and presentation fit your MRI? A lot of people have tears in their labrum but don't present with any symptoms.

Did the docs do any manual tests to determine if you have a labral tear? Have you tried any physical therapy? Where are you located?

No manual test from primary. Have an ortho appointment coming up, so maybe at that appointment. Have a PT appointment in July. I go through UTMB in Galveston County. I do feel some relief when I stretch and apply ice before bed. If i don't, then I'm back to feeling pain and not getting good rest.
