I have been hearing a ticking noise in my truck for about a year now between 35-45 mph. it is a 2020 Silverado with a 5.3L v8 and 68,000 miles. Check Engine Light just came on during a roadtrip down to Austin but has since turned off. I finally dropped it off at the dealership this morning so they could check it out and they said it is likely a lifter situation but they cannot find out more until they start taking things apart. They said it would take 8 hours which would run about $1650 but if it is a lifter replacement, then all in it would be about $3500. They said if Camshaft is damaged then it would be $8200. Obviously, Dealerships will be pricier on repairs so I have another local shop in Grapevine pricing up a quote for me right now. Does anyone have any experience with this and can let me know what the average price is?

I had the lifters go out in my 2020 Silverado trail boss at about 11,000 miles. There was no ticking noise for me. When it happened, every light on the dash lit up, multiple alerts on dash (service engine, service esc, etc.), and the truck went into limp mode. I had it towed to the shop. Luckily, mine was all covered under the warranty.

They alleged faulty lifters from Mexico but were only going to replace the bank of lifters on the side that failed. I pitched a huge fit and the service manager replaced both sides. I haven't had an issue since (over 100,000 miles), but I still feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb.

If going this far it would be wise to do the AFM delete aftermarket.

Do you use any sort of DFM disabler?

I have not used any sort of aftermarket DFM disabler but I probably would after I resolve this issue. I have called 4 local shops and the cheapest quote was still the dealership at $3500 to replace the one side where they think the issue is coming from. Cheapest quote I got for a full DOD delete and re-program was for $6,000 but I am unsure if I will have the truck for another 2+ years to really justify that
