My SIL need to get divorced. She doesn't have much money and every lawyer is quoting $30k - $50k.

Anyone have recommendations for someone who would be cheaper or is that the standard rate?

It should be fairly easy case - no kids, only married a year but no idea of the husband will try to make it difficult (he's a lawyer himself).

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Ashley Green just handled mine. I like Ashley. She nickeled and dimed me but she wasn't expensive and she's totally competent

OP, do they have significant community assets (i.e., house, cars, retirement/investment accounts)? I'm not an attorney, but I'd encourage her to weigh the benefits of a long, drawn-out divorce proceeding against what she has to gain from it.

Lotta questions go into the "I need a cheap lawyer" ask.

Good divorce lawyers are not cheap....certainly if you want to split assets and kids and not (if you are the man) paying your ex a ton of $$ each month.

Parties can do an "agreed" divorce using one attorney if there are no disputes over property/kids. That's the cheapest route other than DIY.

I did this. Had to pay filing fees basically.

Yeah you can find someone plenty competent who will do it for WAY less if no kids and significant assets.

Divorce is typically cut and dry. No fault state and split 50/50 in Texas. No kids should make it very straight forward. Those quotes make zero sense.

Bruce Zivley does everything on his own so you will not get tons of extra paralegal fees and he is reasonable.
