I have filled out the public information request with the COCS twice now for the information on who has received the HOT taxes over the last three years and not heard anything from anyone with the city. Do I have to follow up on the request to get the information?

I could be wrong but I don't think any business receives HOT funds. The rules stipulate a city can only spend them on a very narrow set of things. Giving funds to companies is probably out of bounds.

Long story short, there may be nothing there for them to give you, depending on how you worded your request.

Attached is the current state process for regarding open records request.

If they failed to respond, there is a process with the state to request relief.

They gave money to Santa winter wonderland - for three years - don't know about this year or where money came from - there should be something other than a line item in the budget

I know parks is one of the hot money items.

They generally respond to open records requests, even if only to say that there are no records. I suggest calling the city to ask about your requests.

Did they actually give money directly to SW? I was under the impression they paid for signage at SW mostly indicating local hotels.

600k in signs are needed for Santa winter wonderland? Whose brother in law wrote this deal?

Thanks for the AI summary. But again, signs and advertising are not direct payouts to SW.

The city gave SWWL $50k to make a sign and sponsor the ice rink. Then gave more money $100k for SWWL to send out emails to past patrons about SWWL and what hotels to stay at with the city logo in it.

This contract is online and below. There are more as well to reach the google summary above. The city paid SWWL had to create a sign and then send out marketing emails to past patrons.

Edit - sorry for posting the contract a little out of order.

Here was another year and it was written up in the battalion as HOT money spent. Just google city of college station contract with Santa winter wonderland. It says hotel occupancy tax in this contract. Paying SWWL to create signs and post them in the park.

Ok. It still looks like there's a lot of nuance. Did SW make any profit off the HOT funds they received to make the signs? Has something illegal happened here? Should you be contacting the FBI or are you just trying to gin up outrage?

Not judging BTW, genuinely curious what sort of malfeasance you're trying to uncover. HOT funds are heavily regulated and can only be spent on a narrow range of items.

You were the one stating that no hot funds were paid to private business - I found one that was and it is well documented and you keep moving the goal posts. You think that SWWL did this for the city for free to be a team player?

No company as givin hot money
Excuse me I think SWWL was
No they were not

Simple google shown
Well but they were only signs
Still no monetary proof

Contracts shown
Well are you sure they didn't make a profit on signage and website and email marketing
And then melt down/deflection

On the contrary. You showed where money was paid directly. Thanks. I'm not moving the goal post just trying to figure out where the malfeasance is. They can spend money on signs. They gave money to SW for signs. What's the problem?

Good question.

If I'm reading this map right, no. It says as of 2023 but it's the current link on their site. SW is further south.

I don't live in the city limits and might need some signs also. I wonder if there is an application for securing such funds.

I'm sorry, but I just have to say it: The name of the place is "Santa's Wonderland".

There is no "winter" in there.

Continue on with the outrage.

As long as, you know, spend it on actual signs and don't pocket the money.

How about a requirement that the signs are purchased locally?

I wouldn't want to see some large amount like $87,000 go to an out of town sign company.

Shop local! Keep those tax dollars here!

It's a win-win!
