I am staying in Port A all week and am planning on taking a flat bottom 16 ft boat out.

I will likely launch from Wilson's cut.

Any tips on how to fish the area? Last time I was able to snag some trout around shamrock island, but really unsure how to approach the area.

Look for potholes in the sea grass. Throw hunks of mullet into the pothole and hang on. Move potholes after 5-10 minutes and no fish. This is for reds, not trout.

Take a right going towards port a before you exit Wilson's cut and go back up towards the road rather than going all the way out to shamrock island. This takes you to the flats. It's about two to three feet deep in those flats. Go up towards the road and drift with the wind while casting spoons or top waters. The south east winds will push you back towards the direction of shamrock island. After you finish the drift go back to the road but 50 yards further towards port an and repeat. Lots of reds and trout caught that way when I used to kayak that area. Specifically between Wilson's cut and Sinclair cut. To be fair I didn't have a boat so I couldn't go far but I caught a bunch of fish.

To add to the other post, I did the same after a long morning paddling. I'd find the edge of Sinclair cut and fish the potholes with cut mullet. Lots of flounder caught that way too. I used to take a bag of frozen mullet and let it thaw while throwing lures. After I was worn out I'd anchor up and soak baits for an hour. Then I'd spend the next 45 minutes paddling back against the wind. No more kayaks for me.

If you're into drifting, depending on the wind employ a drift sock and fish the potholes with topwaters, plastics and spoons. After you run to the end of the cut and get out to the open water.

I've also caught trout late in the day wading around the east side of Shamrock Island, throwing plastics.

There's a ton of tide in that area right now. You will have plenty of room to run around. I've had luck on channel edges that work up to a flat with structure on the flat (mangroves, oyster beds).

Just be mindful of kayakers and other boats fishing the area. Every time I'm there I see at least two occasions of boaters not paying attention and cutting off other boats.

Try a drift off flato cut and work towards the bay spoils, then idle back to the east shoreline and drift towards coyote island. You will catch some nice fish. You can also anchor off the edge of flato and free line some fresh dead shrimp. There's a lot of drum schools working up and down that edge.

Thanks everyone. These all look very doable. Will hopefully get my nephew and daughters on some fish.
