Imagine standing in the back of a pickup, going down a dirt road late in the evening and you run across these guys! They're about two inches in diameter counting legs. Non venomous, but shaped like a black widow. We encountered several of these herds? that were migrating by the thousands across a dirt road. What do you call a several thousand strong group of spiders? If you don't like spiders. I've never seen anything like it, but I'm told it's normal. The next day, they were gone as if they'd never been there.

I encountered something similar about 15-20 years ago in the Arbuckles area in south-central OK. There was a road up to the highest point and we came across millions (literally) of migrating tarantula spiders covering the road. They were the size of your hand. It was a paved road but it felt and sounded like we were driving on gravel. I hope I never see anything like that again.

I drove thru the same thing around Morton 20 years ago. It had showered ahead of us and that migration across that FM road was incredible. I felt bad crunching as many as I did.

The only animals I'm typically scared of are flying swamp roaches. That and any type of hornet/yellow jacket.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Vegas-aggie:: Howdy, and WOW!! I have a story totally the same as yours, only older, maybe 40 or 50 years. We lived in West Texas, Petroleum Engineer in Midland. For some very odd reason, we decided we would all, wife and three daughters, go with Daddy to check on a well we had just drilled. Pulled up on the lease road, caliche, what else in West Texas, and as we started down it was covered with MILLIONS OF TARANTELLAS, IT WAS CRAZY SCARY!!! My wife and daughters got hysterical, and I was not far from it, whipped around and got out of there. NEVER BEFORE, NOT SINCE, AND HOPE NEVER have seen anything like this, to weird to believe. In fact, would not have told this if not for your story!
